20w15a is the eleventh snapshot for Java Edition 1.16, released on April 8, 2020, which adds a new nether biome, new music tracks, new blocks and other changes and fixes.

Additions

Blocks

Blackstone

• Generates in basalt deltas.
• Can be used in place of stone to craft furnaces and stone tools.
• Is not blast resistant.
• Has a slab, stair, and wall variant.

Blackstone Slab, Blackstone Stairs, Blackstone Wall

• Decorative blocks crafted from blackstone.

Chiseled Nether Bricks

• New variant of Nether bricks.
• Crafted from 2 Nether brick slabs.

Chiseled Polished Blackstone

• Decorative block crafted from polished blackstone.

Cracked Nether Bricks

• New variant of Nether bricks.
• Obtained by smelting Nether bricks in a furnace.

Cracked Polished Blackstone Bricks

• Decorative blocks crafted from polished blackstone.

Gilded Blackstone

• Has a chance of dropping 2–5 gold nuggets (increased with Fortune), otherwise drops itself.
• Currently only available via the creative inventory or by using commands.

Polished Blackstone

• Crafted with 4 blackstone.
• Has a chiseled, slab, stair, and wall variant.
• Can be crafted into buttons and pressure plates.

Polished Blackstone Bricks

• Crafted with 4 polished blackstone
• Has a cracked, slab, stair, and wall variant.

Polished Blackstone Brick Slab, Polished Blackstone Brick Stairs, Polished Blackstone Brick Wall

• Decorative blocks crafted from polished blackstone bricks.

Polished Blackstone Button and Polished Blackstone Pressure Plate

• Redstone blocks crafted from polished blackstone.
• Work like their stone counterparts.

Polished Blackstone Slab, Polished Blackstone Stairs, and Polished Blackstone Wall

• Decorative blocks crafted from polished blackstone.

Quartz Bricks

• A decorative block crafted from 4 Block of Quartz.

Soul Campfire

• Have a blue flame instead of orange.
• Has a light level of 10.
• Does the same amount of damage as a regular campfire.
• Crafted with soul sand or soul soil instead of coal.
• Piglins are repelled by soul campfires.

Items

Piglin Banner Pattern

• New pattern for banners, the Piglin.
• Use in loom to apply Piglin pattern to the banner.

Biomes

Basalt Deltas

• A volcanic biome in the Nether. Fog effects have flakes of volcanic ash.
• Filled with pillars of basalt and large areas of blackstone.
• Ghasts, magma cubes, and striders spawn in this biome.

General

Accessibility

• Chat line spacing can be adjusted.
• A chat delay can be set between 0 (default) and 6 seconds.

Music

• Added 3 new soundtracks to the Nether, composed by Lena Raine: "Rubedo", "Chrysopoeia" and "So Below".
  • "Rubedo" plays in the nether wastes biome.
  • "So Below" plays in the soul sand valley and basalt deltas biomes.
  • "Chrysopoeia" plays in the crimson forest biome.

Sound

• Added ambient sounds for the basalt deltas.

Tags

• Added campfires block tag.
  • Contains campfires and soul campfires.
  • Bees, parrots, and turtles will view blocks in this tag as dealing fire damage and pathfind accordingly.
  • Campfires use this tag to determine if they are lit or not.
  • Flint and steel uses this tag to determine if it can light campfires.
• Added guarded_by_piglins block tag.
  • Contains container blocks (chests, trapped chests, ender chests, barrels, the shulker_boxes block tag) and gold blocks (blocks of gold, gilded blackstone, and the gold_ores block tag).
  • Piglins will become hostile towards a player that destroys a block in this tag.
• Added furnace_materials item tag.
  • Contains cobblestone and blackstone.
  • Items in this tag can be used to craft furnaces and will unlock the recipe in the recipe book.
• Added stone_tool_materials item tag.
  • Contains cobblestone and blackstone.
  • Items in this tag can be used to craft stone tools and will unlock the recipes in the recipe book.
• Added soul_fire_base_blocks item tag.
  • Parallels the block tag.
  • Contains soul sand and soul soil.
  • Items in this tag can be used to craft soul fire torches and soul campfires and will unlock the recipes in the recipe book.

Dispensers

• Can now saddle pigs, striders, and tamed horses.
• Can now put horse armor on horses.
• Can now put carpets on tamed llamas.
• Can now put chests on tamed llamas, tamed donkeys, and tamed mules.
• Can now shear mooshrooms.
• Can now shear snow golems.

Furnaces

• Can now be crafted with blackstone.

Soul fire torches

• Can now also be crafted with soul sand.

Walls

• Now connects to the bottom and sides of glass panes and iron bars.
• Now connects to the bottom of sea pickles.
• No longer leaves gaps when stacked vertically.

Items

Stone axes, hoes, pickaxes, shovels, and swords

• Can now be crafted with blackstone.

Hoes

• Are now the default tool for mining leaves.
  • Shears are still used for collecting leaf blocks.

Fungi, nether sprouts, roots, twisting vines, nether wart blocks, warped wart blocks, and weeping vines

• Can now be composted.

Mobs

General

• Mobs now avoid walking on magma blocks and lit campfires.

Hoglins

• Baby hoglins no longer drop loot.

Magma cubes

• Spawn commonly in basalt deltas.

Striders

• Now turn blueish-purple outside of lava.
  • When outside lava, their facial expression changes textures slightly.
• Can now only spawn if the block above the lava is air.
• Baby striders ride on top of bigger striders.

Zoglins

• Are now undead.

General

Tags

• Added polished blackstone, and (where applicable) blackstone blocks and items to the buttons, slabs, stairs, and walls block and item tags.
• Added soul campfires to the piglin_repellents block tag.
• Added the #signs block tag and removed lanterns and soul fire lanterns from the wall_post_override block tag.

Textures

• Removed an unused fin from the strider texture.
