Blocks

Box of Infinite Books YellowBox of Infinite Books BlueBox of Infinite Books RedBox of Infinite Books Green Box of Infinite Books
  • The Box of Infinite Books has a namespaced ID of minecraft:book_box
    • It uses the texture of oak planks on all but one face, on which it has its own bookshelf-like texture randomized based on its location.
  • When used, a random written book is generated. This book can be thrown into the nether portal.
    • The random books are tied to the block such that using the same box multiple times will always return an identical book.
      • The title of the random books given by the block is correlated with the location of the block.
      • The title's pattern seems to be [Chunk X]/[Chunk Z]/[Facing direction]/[X]/[Y]
    • The books on the texture are a random color.
    • The author of every book is "Universe itself" and the pages contain random text

New minecraft:neither_portal Block

  • If any written book — whether obtained from the Box of Infinite Books or written by a player — is thrown into a nether portal, the portal will change to the neither portal block. Entering the portal will generate a new dimension with random blocks and random colors.
    • After throwing the book into the portal, the book is destroyed. It will not go through the portal after having changed it.
    • Throwing identical books into different nether portals will change the nether portal to send you to the same dimension.
  • A changed nether portal from a book and quill will change the blocks with minecraft:nether_portal as their namespaced ID to minecraft:neither_portal blocks.
    • The minecraft:neither_portal blocks are block entities.
    • Running /data get block on them returns the data that includes what dimension it will take you to.
    • It seems that the blocks dimension data must be correlated with its color. Portals for the same dimension have the same color.
    • Using /setblock ~ ~ ~ neither_portal will set the block and give it randomized block data as to what dimension it will take you to.
Generated Dimensions
Menger Sponge Dimension

  • Of the possible dimensions, some have been found to be some pretty cool easter eggs. Write the provided string into a book and quill, sign it with whatever title you want, and throw it into any nether portal to get a portal to the described dimension. This can also be done with /warp [string].
