This article documents an April Fools' joke.
There is no actual Java Edition 20w14∞ version of Minecraft in development.

20w14∞[1] is an April Fools' joke released on April 1, 2020.

Additions

Box of Infinite Books
  • The Box of Infinite Books has a namespaced ID of minecraft:book_box
    • It uses the texture of oak planks on all but one face, on which it has its own bookshelf-like texture randomized based on its location.
  • When used, a random written book is generated. This book can be thrown into the nether portal.
    • The random books are tied to the block such that using the same box multiple times will always return an identical book.
      • The title of the random books given by the block is correlated with the location of the block.
      • The title's pattern seems to be [Chunk X]/[Chunk Z]/[Facing direction]/[X]/[Y]
    • The books on the texture are a random color.
    • The author of every book is "Universe itself" and the pages contain random text

New minecraft:neither_portal Block

  • A changed nether portal from a book and quill will change the blocks with minecraft:nether_portal as their namespaced ID to minecraft:neither_portal blocks.
    • The minecraft:neither_portal blocks are block entities.
    • Running /data get block on them returns the data that includes what dimension it will take you to.
    • Using /setblock ~ ~ ~ neither_portal will set the block and give it randomized block data as to what dimension it will take you to.

Generated Dimensions
  • If any written book — whether obtained from the Box of Infinite Books or written by a player — is thrown into a nether portal, the portal will change to the neither portal block. Entering the portal will generate a new dimension with random blocks and random colors.
    • The generated dimensions will also have randomized mobs appear such as giants and withers.
    • The generated dimensions have nether-style generation, with a bedrock ceiling at Y level 128 and the cave generation seen in the Nether.
    • There are exactly 2,147,483,647 possible dimensions.
    • Putting "ant" into a book, throwing it into a portal, and going in will send you to a special dimension similar to that of a flatlands made of White Concrete.
      • At the coordinates 0, 0, 0 are an Ant block and an acacia sign that says "PATIENCE"
  • Entering an unchanged nether portal from any of the generated dimensions sends the player back to the Overworld.
    • Returning to the Overworld generates a new portal in the Overworld.
    • The newly generated portal in the Overworld is not connected with the one from the generated dimension; going through it simply sends the player to the Nether.
Biomes
  • Three new pre-made biomes were added.
    • Between
      • Works best with Floating Islands buffet world generation.
      • Generates a mesh of End Ships
    • Biome For Player With No Time For Nonsense
      • Works best with Overworld buffet world generation.
      • Generates what seems like a normal Overworld map, although mineral blocks and redstone blocks generate instead of ores.
    • Shapes
      • ShapesBuffet

        Example Shapes biome generation

Works best with Floating Islands or Overworld buffet world generation.
      • Generates a world consisting of different shapes made of one or more different types of blocks.
  • Biomes that are discovered by player through the changed portals are added to the list of biomes when creating a Buffet world.
  • In end cities in the new dimensions, a book titled "Orders" whose author is "Deep Lore" will be in the chests. It will contain one of below example texts:
    • reinforce obfuscated
    • capture obfuscated
    • find obfuscated
    • obliterate obfuscated coctails[2]
    • deliver obfuscated Lost Floppies
    • build obfuscated
    • observe obfuscated modders
    • capture obfuscated mappings
    • cut obfuscatedd

Commands

  • Added /warp command.
    • Can be followed by any string or number to warp to a corresponding randomly generated dimension.
Advancements
  • "You're Almost There", achieved after visiting one billion of the dimensions.
Cursor Block
  • The cursor block is a block with an animated texture that changes its color every second, toggling between green and black.
    • It's called "Cursor" in game and has a namespaced ID of minecraft:cursor.
    • The cursor block makes a stone sound when the block is placed or broken.
    • The block has no known use in the game and there is no crafting recipe for it.
Ant Block
  • The Ant Block is accessible through commands, and has a namespaced ID of minecraft:ant.
    • If placed on top of White Concrete, it will move in a random pattern, turning the concrete into its black variation.
Swaggiest stairs ever
  • A stair variant for the netherite block.
  • It appears as "Swaggiest stairs ever" in your inventory and has a namespaced ID of minecraft:netherite_stairs.
    • It cannot be crafted with the intuitive stairs recipe using netherite blocks, nor does it have a crafting recipe.
Footprint item
  • The footprint item is called "Footprint" in your inventory and has a namespaced ID of minecraft:footprint.
    • It uses the footprint particle as its texture.
    • It does not have a crafting recipe.
    • It is not a block, cannot be placed, and has no known use.

Changes

  • Blocks in the creative inventory have been shuffled.
  • Worlds from releases and other snapshots are not visible, but can be accessed by launching the game in said releases and snapshots.
