1.17, the first release of the Caves & Cliffs update, is a major update to Java Edition set to release in the summer of 2021. It was first announced during Minecraft Live 2020 on October 3, 2020. Most things are unconfirmed.

- The axolotl will be added long after the track of the same name by C418, which released in the Update Aquatic. They are small mexican salamanders which are critically endangered.
