Illagers are a species of hostile mobs that look similar to villagers, wandering traders and witches. The illagers are considered "exiled", "outcast", or "offshoot" villagers because they pursue and attack players, villagers, wandering traders, snow golems[Bedrock Edition only] and iron golems .
Illagers didn't spawn alone .They always spawn naturally in a group or spawned by structures such as patrol, raid, woodland mansion and pillager outpost.
Different from other hostile mob. Illagers have their own "leader".They have small chance to become Raid captain. Note: Including the spawn egg[Java Edition only] and summon by command.
All of them can spawn reinforcements when hit, like zombiess.[Java Edition only] Note: ravagers also can spawn even though they are not illagers. [Java Edition only]
Evokers and illusioners cast spells when fighting.
Evokers, illusioners and vindicators can open doors like villagers, but using a spell.[Java Edition only]
- Note that pillagers (and witches and vexes) cannot.
- Vindicators can break down doors like zombies, in Java Edition regardless of the difficulty, while in Bedrock Edition at normal or hard difficulty.
In Bedrock Edition, all illagers ignore baby villagers, vexes despite not illager also ignore baby villagers.
Only the pillager, vindicator and evoker can spawn naturally. The illusioner is exclusive to the Java Edition, and is unused. Vexes can be summoned by evokers, who can spawn in woodland mansions and raids.
Vindicators and evokers are found in mansions, while pillagers spawn in pillager outposts.
Criteria
There are 2 specific criteria for a mob to be considered an illager. They are as follows:
- "Johnny" vindicators do not attack the mob.
- The mob can not be damaged by evoker fangs.
Illagers
- Evoker
- Illusioner[Java Edition only]
- Pillager
- Ravager[Bedrock Edition only]
- Vindicator
Monsters that spawn in raids
- Ravager
- Not an illager because "Johnny" vindicators attack them[Java Edition only], and they spawn in raids.
- Vex
- "Johnny" vindicators attack them. They spawn when summoned by an evoker.
- Witch
- "Johnny" vindicators attack them, and they take damage from evoker fangs. They do spawn in raids. If a witch hit by a pillager or "Johnny"vindicator. That witch won't fight back. [Java Edition only]
Natural occurrences containing illagers
Natural structures containing illagers
Note
- In Bedrock Edition, if an illager, except a pillager or a ravager, gets hit by a pillager, they would try to fight back and kill that pillager. The pillager will not fight back.
- Before Village & Pillage update. Illager (vindicator and evoker) only spawn in woodland mansion and they won't re-spawn again. That means they are limited in every world.
- The new official game "Minecraft Dungeons" released by Mojang. Illagers will be the major enemy in this game. Also it is the first time of the illager appear in other minecraft official game.
