Citations need serious work. Can we get a forum link for the decoding? Can we get direct links to the images for citations? Darkid 14:30, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Will do.--Yurisho 14:54, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
added forum ref, and instead of ref'ing the images I just wrote "(click to see)" at the description...I think that will do the job..--Yurisho 15:00, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Fake?

Isn't it just a corner of a golden apple??? :\ just try to cut the right side of it and match to the found "Experience orb". It fits perfectly! --Cith 10:21, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

There was a debate over that in the forums and the conclusion of every test was not conclusive. It doesn't match perfectly not in shape, not in shade, and not in color, but each of this non perfect matches can be possibly explained: shape because it is far from the player then not every pixel is drown, and color and shade may be because of the new light system, but we still don't know what the light system does to items, and no test where formed on different sprites in different distances.
In the end, there is no proof this is a golden apple, or that it is not, but it does worth mentioning.--Yurisho 14:14, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
However, it should be noted that notch did "confirm" (indirectly) the reddit thread/forum post deciphering the browser tabs in the 1.7 changelist image. One of these was ExperienceOrb.java. Darkid 15:40, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
W00t! link please.--Yurisho 15:50, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/379958-secret-information-about-17/page__st__220 Darkid 16:05, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
where do you see that notch confirmed it?--Yurisho 16:33, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Again, indirect. He merely stated that the information had been found. The thread was the 14th and he tweeted that someone got it on the 15th. Darkid 17:09, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Aaaa...the fact he said it was found is already written...--Yurisho 18:38, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
And is it just was a golden apple, why did Notch remove it and say it was an "error"? (And why the heck would you leave those precious apples lying around? :P ) --TheKax 16:04, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

It's called Photoshop.

It was a fake 'item' superimposed onto the picture. How else do you think he would have posted another picture WITHOUT the orb? DURRRR --ThesaurusRex84 22:41, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

All I got from that is that you say the orb was added using photoshop...that's stupid, the first photo was with the orb, the second was without, if anything - he used photoshop to remove the orb.

Deleting?

This page has enough evidence to be considered O.K for the wiki, IMO--Yurisho 08:38, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

We do not allow speculation on the wiki. Use the forum for this.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 17:38, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
I think you admins should decide what you want to do with this page - Kizzycocoa already took down a delete request for this page...*sign*...--Yurisho 17:42, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Personally I think Theory is just a terrible word for the whole thing. It's not really a theory. It's unconfirmed, but it's based on official information provided by notch - including the name (which may not be a final name, but it's what he named his java classes). Theory implies it's making a ton of crap up. Nothing has been made up here really. --Warlock 17:53, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
But it's still trying to derive fact from circumstantial evidence. It's just not good information to put in the wiki. That still makes it speculation. --Gnu32 18:30, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

This is just speculation. This page should definitely be merged with upcoming features. Timberdoodle 12:35, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

The fake change list

If you look on the very bottom of the 1.7 change list, you can see the words "Removed Herobrine". Wasn't this the same joke that Notch put in the 1.6 change list? He probably used the same list, but put 1.7 at the top. It must be fake. So the experience orb HAS to be the secret item. Since it's the only one that has had any sort of real evidence.

theory?

I had a theory about the "ExperienceOrb." Let us think. With some of the later updates, he was going to include a new and improved lighting system (more yellow to the lighting, from an image he posted on twitter), and all this is is black and yellow... sort of like a template image! So perhaps this could be some sort of improvement to lighting sources! perhaps this will make a glow around a torch head... idk it just reminds me of the template image i saw in a doom 3 file when i was modifying the torch in doom 3 to look like the pedobear seal of approval. anyone else care to vote in my speculation? Da ninja 09:29, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

In another image we saw how the new torch aura will look like, and it is much, much more transperant, and...um...un-round.--Yurisho 17:59, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

Spores?

I was just thinking recently about giant mushrooms. They have been confirmed and Notch has posted a screenshot of an NPC village with two mushrooms. He also stated that they will not spawn in most biomes without being planted. I personally think that the "slice" of the "experience orb" that was seen was perhapse a spore for planting giant mushrooms. This is of course my own humble opinion, not a proven fact.--Torraan 23:20, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Speculation. Why would it even do that, common sense. | TheKax | Talk 07:29, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Experience orb as... experience orb

Well, it's experience orb so it should give us an.. EXPERIENCE! And there will be EXP. LEVELS! What an interesting use of experience orbs! Lawl. Well, at least I think so - "level ups" in an Adventure Mode. But.. what this will give us? ~ L.K. 23:48, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Should we reintroduce this?

The last leaked image by Notch is showing a new HUD, with a health meter, a hunger meter, and an experience bar. Is it worth it to recreate the page?--FWD Talk 13:42, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

No, probably not. We have no idea what the bar is and even it was experience we do not know if Notch is still using experience orbs. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 15:41, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Livestream leak?

A file called SPorb.png was accidentally revealed by Notch during his LD48 livestream -- http://i.imgur.com/uxRsZ.png. Maybe this is experience orb? IVI4tt 16:05, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

I think it looks like it's called "xporb.png." In any case, nice catch. It might be pageworthy. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 16:17, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Discrepancy in Experience Orb article

After reading through the article about Experience Orbs, I noticed a discrepancy in information given about the Orbs. In the first section of the article, above "History", within the second paragraph, there is a sentence stating experience orbs disappearing.

Direct quote: "Experience orbs can be picked up when the player revisits the location of death before the orbs disappear."

This conflicts with another statement on the same page, near the bottom of the "Trivia" section of the article.

Direct quote: "In Minecraft 1.8 Prerelease 1 and 2, Mobs would drop experience orbs if they died from any cause. If a mob spawner was near lava and mobs repeatedly burned up, since experience orbs never despawn nor burn, it would cause a serious amount of lag and could crash Minecraft."

There is no section inside the article directly stating experience orbs were changed from being fully persistent to despawning after a set amount of time between 1.8 pre1-2 and 1.8 proper respectively. There is also no citation for either of these facts. --Insouciant Mind 20:27, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

You nailed it, in the past it never despawned, but now it does. The facts don't need citation, because they are bugs and simple game facts.--Yurisho 14:13, 20 September 2011 (UTC)
