Hoglins are warthog-like breedable hostile mobs and the main source of food in the Nether.
Spawning
Hoglins are found in herds of 3–4 in crimson forests, respawning over time. Several spawn in the "hoglin stable" type of bastion remnant upon generation. 5% of hoglins spawn as babies. Hoglins can spawn at any light level and on most blocks other than nether wart block.
Drops
When killed, adult hoglins drop:
- 2–4 raw porkchop (cooked porkchop while on fire). The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 7 with Looting III.
- 0–2 leather. The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 5 with Looting III.
- In Java Edition, 5 if killed by a player or tamed wolf.
- Baby hoglins drop only experience.[Java Edition only]
- In Bedrock Edition, adult hoglins drop 1–3, if killed by a player or tamed wolf, while baby hoglins drop no experience.
Behavior
Hoglins avoid warped fungi (including in a flower pot), nether portals, and respawn anchors. They naturally sink in water and eventually drown, despite being living mobs; this is intentional behavior.[1] They are not immune to fire or lava.[2] Hoglins can be led with a lead despite the fact they are hostile.
Hostility
Hoglins attack any player within 32 blocks, and hit about 2 blocks away. When an adult hoglin attacks, it flings a player into the air. Players can still be flung even if they block with a shield. Baby hoglins also attack, dealing less damage without flinging. If the player attacks a baby hoglin, it flees. Hoglins do not attack a player standing near a block that repels them, but run away from the block unless they have already chosen to attack. Hoglins are 60% resistant to knockback. Hoglins do not prevent a player from sleeping.
Similarly to piglins and zombified piglins, a player or mob attacking a hoglin provokes all nearby hoglins.
Hoglins are hostile to piglins if a piglin attacks first. However, they never attack piglins unprovoked. Hoglins also avoid piglins if outnumbered.
Baby hoglins
Baby piglins run near, and ride, baby hoglins. If there are more baby piglins than baby hoglins, the baby piglins occasionally jump on other baby piglins already riding a baby hoglin, with a maximum of 3 stacked on a single baby hoglin.
Zoglins
A hoglin turning into a zoglin.
If a hoglin spawns in or moves to the Overworld or the End, it shakes and turns into a zoglin after 15 seconds. Any lead attached to the hoglin breaks when it converts. Leads attached to hoglins still break, even though zoglins are leashable.[Java Edition only][3] The newly-created zoglin gets Nausea I for 10 seconds. This Nausea effect is only decorative and has no effect on the zoglin's behavior.
Breeding
Hoglins can be bred with crimson fungi. It takes about 5 minutes before the parents can breed again, and it takes 20 minutes for baby hoglins to mature. They stay near their parents unless they see a player or get attacked, in which case they (attack or) run away. Feeding a baby hoglin reduces the remaining time for it to mature by 10%.
Hoglins cannot be bred when they are running away from warped fungi, respawn anchors or Nether portals.
Farming
Because hoglins are hostile toward the player, the player can corral hoglins they want to breed, although hoglins can attack over fences and walls, so precaution is needed. Hoglins despawn unless they have been fed or bred using crimson fungi.
Hoglins become passive while near warped fungi, nether portals, and respawn anchors. If there are too many in an area, they may still become hostile for a while if attacked. And if one is set upon attacking, sometimes others become hostile, too. They become passive again if they lose line of sight from the player.

Entity data
Hoglins have entity data associated with them that contains various properties.
- Entity data
- Additional fields for mobs that can breed
- Tags common to all entities
- Tags common to all mobs
- CannotBeHunted: 1 or 0 (true/false) - if true, piglins do not attack the hoglin. Set to true for hoglins spawned as a part of bastion remnants.
- IsImmuneToZombification: 1 or 0 (true/false) – if true, the hoglin does not transform to a zoglin when in the Overworld and
TimeInOverworlddoes not increment. - TimeInOverworld: The number of ticks that the hoglin has existed in the Overworld; the hoglin converts to a zoglin when this is greater than 300.

Chains are metallic decoration blocks.
Obtaining
Breaking
Chains can be mined using any pickaxe. If mined without a pickaxe, it drops nothing.

Natural generation
Chains generate in bastion remnants and sometimes in ruined portals that generate in the Nether. They always generate above magma cube spawners, also found in bastions.
Chains can also generate in mineshafts. They generate on the sides of a wooden bridge (a mid-air corridor) when the distance between the bridge and the highest solid block below it is higher than the distance to the lowest solid block above it. Chains here generate vertically in a pillar between the bridge and the ceiling. The lowest block of the pillar, connecting the chain to the bridge, is always an oak fence.

Usage
Chains can be used to suspend bells, hanging signs, or both types of lanterns (normal lanterns and soul lanterns), as the chain texture connects to the chain of the lantern seamlessly as if it were part of it, and it connects the hanging sign chains together. Chains do not require a supporting block to be placed whether it is on the top, next to it or at the bottom. It can exist completely free-standing in mid air and it can be rotated. Chains connect horizontally or vertically, but not across different orientations (so a chain with N orientation does not connect to a chain with E orientation in the adjacent block).
Horizontal chains one block above a surface may be walked over. Horizontal chains two blocks above a surface prevent players from traveling past them. Vertical chains block travel if targeted directly, but may be skirted.
Precision is required, but chains can be walked on, allowing for inconspicuous, although somewhat costly, bridges.
Chains can be pushed by pistons without being broken.

Cake is a food and a block that can be eaten by the player.
A cake with candle is a light-producing variation created when a candle is used on an uneaten cake.

Usage
Tutorials/Hunger management
Unlike most food, the cake cannot be eaten as an item in the hotbar. Before being eaten, it must first be placed on top of a solid block. Placing the cake on a slab also works, as the slab acts like a solid block. The cake instead floats half a block on top of the slab.
Each cake has seven "slices"; each use consumes one slice progressing inward from the west. A single slice restores 2 hunger and 0.4 hunger saturation. Eating all seven slices of a cake restores 14 hunger and 2.8 hunger saturation.
Since eating a cake comes with no animation, the cake can be eaten at a rate of one slice per tick. Multiple players can eat from the same cake at the same time. java, eating cake makes no sound, unlike other foods.
As a redstone component, when connected to a comparator, a whole cake emits a signal strength of 14. The signal strength decreases two units with each slice.
Cake destroys falling blocks if placed under them, similar to a torch.
Pandas
Some pandas move toward a dropped cake to pick up and eat it. Some may not, depending on the cake's location.
Composting
Placing a cake into a composter raises the compost level by 1.
Piston interactivity
A cake is broken when pushed by a piston, and it drops nothing.
Cakes with candles
Using a candle on an uneaten cake creates a candle cake of that color (including uncolored). Eating the cake causes the candle to drop.
Using flint and steel, fire charge, or any flaming projectile on an unlit candle cake lights its candle. Lit candle cakes emit light level of 3. Clicking on the lit candle (but not the cake) extinguishes it.

Issues
issue list
Trivia
Interaction
* Because cake is only 7 blocks wide, it is possible to stand on the edge of a block beneath a cake.
* It is possible to place cake on top of another cake by placing a cake on the ground, then placing another cake on the side of a block above and to the side of the first cake, similar to placing torches on a chest. Eating the lower cake causes the upper cake to disappear, as does mining out the block of cake it is sitting on.
* It is also possible to place any block on top of cakes (including another cake) by sneaking and placing the block on top of a cake.
* Mobs on top of cakes rotate while attempting to move, a pathfinding oversight shared with fences.
* If cake is placed in a hole one block deep, players can get across the hole without jumping, although a player standing on the cake must jump to get out of the hole.
* Cake can be used to create a functioning staircase, by placing a cake on each level of a 1 block by 1 block incline. This would be one of the most labor-intensive staircases available, given the requirements to craft a cake, compared to any other method of creating a staircase. This staircase is also extremely overpowered when combined with a horse being one of the fastest forms of travel.
*At some point, it was possible to push cakes into the void using pistons.
Miscellaneous
* Cake was added to Minecraft following the ModDB 2010 Indie of the Year Awards. Notch agreed to add cake to Minecraft if it won, which led to a campaign called "The Quest For Cake". Minecraft won 3 of the 7 awards, including the "Indie of the Year" award.
* Placing a cake makes the same sound as placing wool.
* The player can place cake on top of a bed, and while sleeping, the cake shows on the player's screen as if it were on top of their head.
* The name of the achievement for crafting a cake is a reference to the internet meme "The Cake is a Lie", which originated from Valve Software's game, Portal.
* On May 17, 2019, for the 10th anniversary of Minecraft, the cake model was changed to display a "10" above it, made of white concrete.
* Unlike most foods, cakes don't count towards the advancement "A Balanced Diet" java.

A spider eye is a poisonous food and brewing item.
Obtaining
Mob loot
Spiders
Spiders and cave spiders have a 1 chance of dropping a spider eye when killed by a player or tamed wolf, but not when killed by environmental damage (such as falling). The maximum amount of spider eyes is increased by 1 per level of Looting. The chance of a spider not dropping any spider eyes can be found using the formula <code>2 / (Looting Level + 3)</code>. For example, Looting III gives a 1 chance of not dropping any spider eyes. All other amounts have an equal chance of occurring.
Witches
Witches have a chance of dropping 0–6 spider eyes upon death. This is increased by 3 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0-15 spider eyes.
Chest loot
spider-eye
Usage
Food
When eaten, a spider eye restores 2 hunger points and 3.2 saturation points, giving a nourishment value of 1.6. It also applies a Poison effect lasting 5 seconds to the player, causing damage, which reduces hunger/saturation by 6 points.

An eye of ender is a craftable item used to locate strongholds and activate the end portals within them.

Usage
Locating strongholds
To locate strongholds (and the end portals they house):
* Pressing use while holding an eye of ender causes it to fly approximately 12 blocks in the direction of the nearest stronghold, traveling through any blocks necessary, and leave a trail of purple particles, the same particle effect used for endermen and ender chests.
** The eye leads to the chunk where a spiral staircase, the first room generated in the stronghold, is located.
** The center of this entrance staircase is always exactly at the chunk coordinates 4, ~, 4, although the eye of ender leads to chunk coordinates 0, ~, 0 (the northwest corner of the chunk).
* While over 12 blocks away from the northwest corner of the staircase chunk, the eye will travel upward to offer an easily-visible indication of the horizontal direction the player must travel.
* When closer than 12 blocks to the northwest corner of the staircase chunk, the eye will travel downward, to indicate the player is above a stronghold and must mine downward.
* After two or three seconds of travel, the eye floats in the air briefly, then either falls (becoming collectable again) or shatters in mid-air. The eye has a 20% chance of shattering (80% chance of surviving) per throw, therefore throwing it three times has approximately 50% overall chance to shatter the eye (0.83=51.2%).
* The eye of ender's flying function works only in the Overworld. It does nothing in the Nether, the End, custom dimensions, or in worlds with no strongholds.
Note that the eyes may point to an incorrect location if the target chunks were generated with a different biomes map in an older version or through different generation settings.
Activating end portals
Once an end portal is found, the eyes of ender are required to activate it. End portals require a total of 12 eyes of ender in order to activate, though each individual frame-block has a 10% chance of containing an eye of ender when generated. Eyes can be placed in empty End portal frames by pressing use on them until the entire ring of 12 is filled, thereby activating the portal. Due to the fact that there is a 10% chance of each individual end portal frame having an eye in it, there is a one out of one trillion chance of every frame having an eye in it thereby activating the portal even if the player doesn't have any eyes of ender.

|In older worlds with chunks generated before Beta 1.9 Prerelease 3, the eyes may mislead the player to a place where there isn't a stronghold at all. ==Trivia ==
*When thrown in third-person view, the eyes of ender fly out from the player's feet instead of their hand.
*Before Java Edition 1.9, eyes of ender can be purchased from cleric villagers, which means players can find a stronghold and go to the End without accessing the Nether at all.
*bedrock if the player travels beyond a certain radius (roughly 740,000 blocks), eyes of ender always point to a stronghold near spawn, even though strongholds continue to generate past this limit. If one travels to this limit, they can see eyes of ender suddenly switching direction. A similar phenomenon occurs with the locate command.

Trivia
- Similarly to the ravager originally being called "Illager Beast" before its official name was chosen by the community, the Hoglin's name was also chosen by the community. Its initial placeholder name was "Piglin Beast".
- In Peaceful difficulty, Hoglins are passive to the player.
- Hoglins are the only hostile mobs, other than the unused killer bunny, that can be bred.
- Baby hoglins are the only baby mobs that both grow up and drop experience when killed.
- In Bedrock Edition, there are unused texture files named
hoglin_meat_rawandhoglin_meat_cookedthat are textured identically to raw beef and steak, respectively. - Hoglins are the only general nether mob that does not spawn in the nether wastes biome.
- Unlike most animals, hoglins respawn over time instead of simply spawning during world generation, making them significantly more sustainable.
- The hoglins have no pupils, unlike overworld pigs.
- Henrik Kniberg released a video[6] of a group of hoglins killing a piglin, then "celebrating" by bobbing their heads, then getting on their hind legs and dancing. This feature was never added into any snapshot and is not actually in Minecraft because it was made as a joke.
- However, piglins do have a 10% chance to celebrate after killing a hoglin.
- The left nostril of the hoglin's snout is a pixel larger than the right nostril.
