Hoglins are boar-like breedable hostile mobs and the main source of food in the Nether.
Spawning
Hoglins are found in herds of 3 to 4 in crimson forests, respawning over time. 5% of hoglins spawn as babies. Some hoglins spawn in the "stable" kind of bastion remnant upon generation.
Drops
When killed, adult hoglins drop:
- 2–4 raw porkchop (cooked porkchop while on fire). The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 7 with Looting III.
- 0–2 leather. The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 5 with Looting III.
- 5 if killed by a player or tamed wolf.
Baby hoglins drop only experience.
Behavior
Hoglins avoid warped fungi (including in a flower pot), nether portals, and respawn anchors. They naturally sink in water and eventually drown. They are not immune to fire or lava.[1] Hoglins can be leashed despite the fact they are hostile.
Hostility
Hoglins attack any player within 32 blocks, and hit about 2 blocks away. When an adult hoglin attacks, it flings a player into the air. Players can still be flung even if they block with a shield. Baby hoglins also attack, dealing less damage without flinging. If the player attacks back (baby hoglins), they flee. Hoglins do not attack a player standing near a block that repels them, but will instead run away from the block. This is unless they have already chosen to press the attack. Hoglins are 60% resistant to knockback.
Hoglins are hostile to piglins if they attack first. However, they avoid piglins if outnumbered.
Baby hoglins
Baby piglins run near and ride baby hoglins. If there are more baby piglins than baby hoglins, the baby piglins occasionally jump on other baby piglins already riding a baby hoglin, with a maximum of 3 stacked on a single baby hoglin.
Zoglins
A hoglin turning into a zoglin.
If a hoglin spawns in or moves to the Overworld or the End, it shakes and turns into a zoglin after 15 seconds. Any lead attached to the hoglin breaks when it converts.
Breeding
Hoglins can be bred with crimson fungi. It takes 5 minutes before the parents can be bred again and takes 20 minutes for baby hoglins to mature. They stay near their parents unless they see a player or get attacked, in which case they run away. Feeding a baby hoglin reduces the remaining time for it to mature by 10%.
Hoglins cannot be bred when they are running away from warped fungi, respawn anchors or Nether portals.
Farming
Because hoglins are hostile toward the player, the player can corral hoglins they want to breed, although hoglins can attack over fences and walls so precaution is needed. Hoglins despawn unless they have been fed or bred using crimson fungi.
Hoglins become passive while near warped fungi, nether portals, and respawn anchors. If there are too many in an area, they may still become hostile for a while if attacked. And if one is set upon attacking, sometimes others become hostile, too. They become passive again if they lose line of sight from the player.

Usage
Each type of medicine has an associated effect that it can cure (see for details). Players can drink the medicine only if they have the corresponding effect. Drinking the medicine eliminates the effect. Although medicine does not resemble potions, the player still gets the glass bottle back.

Pumpkin seeds are items obtained from pumpkins that can be used to grow pumpkin stems.
Pumpkin stems are plants grown on farmland that, over time, grow pumpkins on dirt, mud and moss blocks adjacent to them.
Obtaining
Breaking
When broken, a pumpkin stem drops 0–3 pumpkin seeds. The chance for pumpkin seeds to drop increases with the stem's age.

Usage
Farming
Tutorials/Pumpkin and melon farming
Pumpkin seeds can be planted only on farmland, as stems. Over time, a stem grows through several stagesNeeds testing and, at its final growth stage, will produce pumpkins on any adjacent dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, grass block, farmland, podzol, mycelium, moss block, mud or muddy mangrove roots. If a pumpkin is already occupying a spot adjacent to a stem it does not grow more pumpkins until the pumpkin is removed. A single stem can grow an unlimited number of pumpkins. Pumpkin stems need a minimum light level of 10 in the block above the stem to grow and give pumpkins. Pumpkin seeds are affected by bone meal only with respect to stem growth; bone meal does not help produce the actual pumpkins.
Breeding
Like other seeds, pumpkin seeds can be used to breed chickens, lead chickens around, and make baby chickens grow up faster by 10% of the remaining time.
Taming
Like other seeds, pumpkin seeds can be used to tame parrots.
Composting
Placing pumpkin seeds into a composter has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.
Pumpkin stem
A pumpkin stem is the block that is planted on farmland when pumpkin seeds are used on it. It starts underground, and rises up as the plant grows. The stem is colored green when young, and then yellow once fully grown.
The stem curves once a pumpkin has grown from it. A fully-grown single stem connects to any pumpkin in an adjacent square, thus there are 5 possible appearances to a stem. If there are multiple pumpkins it can connect to, it favors the east, then west, north, and south. When the pumpkin is removed, the stem returns to its straight shape.

Writing
By pressing use item or long pressing screen anywherebedrock while holding a book and quill in their hand, the player can open a text editor GUI.
Using this GUI, the player can write a single book up to 100java or 50bedrock pages long, with up to 798 characters per page. The player can write up to 79,800java or 12,800bedrock characters inside the entire book. No page may be longer than 14 lines and each line can have a width of 114 pixels (see pixel width of each character here).
The player has the ability to copy and paste into books. However, the paste does not work if the text being pasted is longer than a single page. Most Unicode characters are available in books, and they may be pasted in without issue.
In singleplayer, the world pauses while a book is being edited.java
Lecterns
One can place a book and quill or a written book on an empty lectern.
The lectern then emits a redstone signal depending on the displayed page in the book. On the last page, the lectern emits a signal strength of 15. This is why lecterns are listed in the "redstone" tab in the creative inventory.
Formatting codes
Formatting codes

Text in a book can be styled using codes starting with the § character (section sign).
* § + k creates randomly changing characters.
* § + l creates bold text.
* § + m creates strikethrough text.
* § + n creates underlined text.
* § + o creates italic text.
* § + 0 – f (hexadecimal) creates colored text.
* § + r resets any of the previous styles so text after it appears normally.
If the player uses multiple codes, and continue typing past the end of a line, the next line exhibits only the last formatting code used.
Signing
Books can be signed by pressing the "Sign" button while in the interface. java, when signed, a book bears the name of the player who wrote it and a title chosen upon signing. bedrock, the book doesn't display the name of the player as the author; instead, the author can be any text the player wants. After it has been signed, it cannot be edited again – it has turned into a written book.
Special characters can be used in the title, if typed from a keyboard that supports them. Alt codes do not work, and the § character cannot be typed even using a keyboard that implements it, meaning titles cannot be colored or formatted in-game. However, on Linux using the compose key to produce special characters does work.
The title of the book can be up to 16 characters long, and the player cannot paste into a title. A "workaround" for the 16-character limitation is to manually rename the book at an anvil, which always costs 1 experience level. This can be done with either a written book or a book and quill – both versions will always display the changed name. If a custom name is removed from a written book, it will revert back to the title it was given during the signing process.
Chiseled bookshelf
the chiseled bookshelf while having a book and quill in the main hand will put the book inside the chiseled bookshelf.
Trading
bedrock, expert-level librarian villagers buy 2 books and quills for one emerald. Book and quill is offered in two item slots due to being non-stackable.
java, expert-level librarian villagers have a 50% chance to buy 2 books and quills for one emerald. The amount of books and quills needed is supposed to be 2, but due to the item being non-stackable, only one is needed for the trade.

* The in-game restrictions on books are not hard limits. Third party editors or commands can make books have more than 100 pagesjava (2,147,483,639 pages), more than 256 characters per page (32,767 characters per page), can change author names, and can have colored titles, among other things. These books still function properly in vanilla Minecraft, meaning the player may encounter such books on adventure maps or multiplayer servers.
* If the player renames a book and quill in an anvil before signing it, it retains the name from the anvil instead of taking the name from signing.java

Entity loot
Witches have a chance of dropping 0–6 sticks upon death. This is increased by 3 per level of Looting, for a chance of 0-15 sticks.
Boats and boats with chests drop 2 sticks when falling from exactly 12, 13, 49, 51, 111, 114, 198, 202, 310, or 315 blocks..

Trivia
* The stick is used in 49 recipes in Java Edition, and 50 recipes in Bedrock Edition, more than any other item in the game. Iron ingot takes second place with 35 recipes, and planks take third place with 34 recipes.
* To craft each recipe once, a player would need 111 sticks, including 1 for the redstone torch in an activator rail, while using the extra tripwire hook for the crossbow. This would require 56 planks, or 14 logs, for the sticks, and an extra 29 planks for the wooden tools, tripwire hook, signs, fences, fence gate, grindstone, and slabs for the barrel. This means that the player needs a total of 85 planks, or 22 logs, plus 6 more for the campfire and soul campfire.

Trivia
- Similarly to the ravager originally being called "Illager Beast" before its official name was chosen by the community, the Hoglin's name was also chosen by the community. Its initial placeholder name was "Piglin Beast".
- Hoglins are the only hostile mobs, other than the unused killer bunny, that can be bred.
- Baby hoglins are the only baby mobs that grow up that drop experience when killed.
- In Bedrock Edition, there are unused texture files named
hoglin_meat_rawandhoglin_meat_cookedthat are textured identically to raw beef and steak, respectively. - Hoglins are the only general nether mob that does not spawn in the nether wastes biome.
- Henrik Kniberg released a video[3] of a group of hoglins killing a piglin, then "celebrating" by bobbing their heads, then getting on their hind legs and dancing. This feature was never added into any snapshot and is not actually in Minecraft because it was made as a joke.
- However, piglins do have a 10% chance to celebrate after killing a hoglin.
