The Guardian is a hostile mob that resembles an angered pufferfish which only spawns underwater in Ocean monuments. Its eye will always look towards the viewpoint of a nearby player. It also has a larger, grey, mini-boss variant called the Elder Guardian.

The Guardian attacks by sending out a large laser beam which harms the player. In addition, Guardians can target and damage players who are riding in boats; however once the player is out of range, the Guardian's laser will disengage from the player, and deal no damage.

Behavior

Guardians will swim around in water, attacking any players or squids that come into sight. They swim in abrupt charges, moving their tail rapidly when doing so. Unlike squids, Guardians will not die outside of water, instead they will jump and flail around, making wet, squishy noises. They will quickly move towards the nearest water source, at which point they swim away. When swimming, their spikes retract and they don't deal damage when attacked. Guardians are also resistant to lava and fire. When not swimming they sink.

Guardians' eyes will follow and stare at any nearby players, and will always look directly at who they're attacking. This makes them the first mob with dynamic eyes.

Attacking

The Guardian has two methods of attack, engaging a laser-like beam and a thorn-like attack. The beam takes several seconds to charge, doing no damage while doing so, and changes from purple initially to bright yellow when fully charged. Once charged, the beam abruptly disappears and deals damage. The Guardian will swim around for a few seconds before firing again. If the target comes near the Guardian while it is firing its beam, it will stop firing and swim away until it is at a comfortable range, at which point it will continue attacking. The beam cannot be dodged, as it follows the player, but can be obstructed by solid blocks, and has a range of approximately 14 blocks.

Guardians also have spikes on their bodies. Although these spikes don't do any direct damage upon contact or as a melee attack, they act similar to the Thorns enchantment. The Guardians can extend and retract their spikes. If a player attacks the Guardian when its spikes are extended, the player takes a small amount of damage.

Combat

Guardians are very resistant to melee attacks when under water, as the player will not be able to quickly approach the Guardian due to the water's slowing effect. Guardians will swim away when approached by a player it is targeting, and the Guardian will deal 1 heart of damage every time it is hit when its spikes are extended. If cornered, the Guardian will usually extend its spikes and fire at the player, even at point blank range.

The Guardians are resistant to fire damage, but if somehow brought on land, they sometimes take fall damage from their swift movement.

If the player(s) must fight a Guardian in melee, they should try to corner it and hope for the best; or else try to trick it into swimming within melee range repeatedly.

The Guardian cannot shoot as fast as a player with a bow can, so a skilled player will be able to shoot the Guardian, and then hide to break the beam's lock, repeating until the Guardian is dead. If the Guardian is in shallow water the player(s) can use a fishing rod to pull it out of the water where the player(s) can then kill it using melee attacks without being shot at or hurt by the spikes.

Fighting Guardians is incredibly dangerous without armor. Armor is essential to combating Guardians, especially within the Ocean monument. Entering their territory without armor will almost always lead to a swift death, even if armed with a sword or bow and arrow.

Farming

Since the Ocean monuments usually spawn with a large space underneath them, the new sponges can remove the water in this area and walls can be built to keep it from re-flooding. Then the monument can be restructured to optimize spawn rates and the floor of the monument (or ceiling of the dry room underneath) can be replaced with signs. Iron golems can be placed in the dry room to kill the falling Guardians and hoppers to collect the loot.

This video shows an approach to this idea also, This video shows a much more advanced method of farming guardians. Although this farm is fully automatic, it has its disadvantages as well: It is extremely hard to build, as a wall has to be constructed underwater with the guardians constantly attacking and the Elder Guardians constantly causing Mining Fatigue; requires extreme amounts of iron for massive amounts of iron golems and hoppers; and the iron golems will eventually die of spike damage.

A redstone repeater is a block that produces a full-strength output signal from its front when its back is powered, with four configurable delay settings. It can also be locked into a power state by its side being directly powered by a repeater or a comparator.

Obtaining
Breaking
A redstone repeater can be broken instantly using any tool, or without a tool, and drops itself as an item. To remove a redstone repeater, mine it.

A redstone repeater is removed and drops as an item if:
* its attachment block is moved, removed, or destroyed;
* water or lava flows into its space;java
* a piston tries to push it or moves a block into its space.

Natural generation
A single redstone repeater is generated naturally in each jungle temple.
They also generate in ancient cities.

}}

Usage
Redstone circuit
A redstone repeater can be used in four different ways: to "repeat" redstone signals back to full strength, delay signals, prevent signals moving backwards, or to "lock" signals in one state.

A repeater can be placed only on top of opaque blocks (dirt, stone, etc.), on top of upside-down slabs, upside-down stairs, furnaces, and glass. be, a repeater can also be placed on fences and stone walls. They can also be placed on some transparent blocks. See Opacity/Placement for more information. To place a repeater, use the Place Block control.

A redstone repeater has a front and back – the arrow on the top points to the repeater's front. A repeater also has two small redstone torches on its top – the color of the torches indicates whether its output is on (dark red when off, bright red when on) and the distance between them indicates the delay the repeater adds to the signal transmission.

A repeater is 0.125 (1) blocks high.

Signal transmission
A repeater transmits signals only from its back to its front, but its behavior can be modified from the side (see signal locking, below).

A redstone repeater can be powered by any of the following components at its back:
* an active power component (redstone torch, lever, block of redstone, etc.)
* powered redstone dust
* a powered redstone comparator or another powered redstone repeater facing the repeater
* a powered opaque block (including any opaque mechanism components, such as dispensers, redstone lamps, etc.)

A redstone repeater can power any of the following components at its front:
* redstone dust
* a redstone comparator or another redstone repeater facing away from the repeater
* any opaque block (including any opaque mechanism components)

A redstone repeater can activate any mechanism component it is facing.

An opaque block powered by a redstone repeater is called "strongly-powered" (as opposed to an opaque block "weakly-powered" by redstone dust). A strongly-powered opaque block can power adjacent redstone dust, as well as other redstone components.

Signal repeating
Transmission circuit#Repeater
A redstone repeater can "repeat" a redstone signal, boosting it back up to power level 15.

Redstone signals have a maximum power level of 15 and that level drops by 1 for every block of redstone dust the signal travels through. If a signal must travel through more than 15 blocks of redstone dust, a redstone repeater can be used to boost the signal back up to full strength. An extra two blocks of distance can be achieved by placing solid opaque blocks before and after the repeater.

While redstone repeaters can allow signals to travel great distances, each always adds some delay to the transmission since the minimum amount of delay is 1 redstone tick (0.1 seconds, barring lag).

Signal delay
When initially placed, a redstone repeater has a delay of one redstone tick (equivalent to two game ticks, or 0.1 seconds barring lag).

A repeater's delay can be modified by using the Use Item control. Each use increases the repeater's delay by one redstone tick, to a maximum of four redstone ticks, then back to one redstone tick. Longer delays can be made with multiple repeaters – for example, a repeater set to 'four' and another to 'one' provides a half-second delay (0.4s + 0.1s = 0.5s).

A repeater set to a delay of two to four redstone ticks increases the length of any shorter on-pulse to match the length of the repeater's delay, and suppress any shorter off-pulse. For example, a repeater set to a 4-tick delay changes a 1-tick, 2-tick, or 3-tick on-pulse into a 4-tick on-pulse, and does not allow through any off-pulse shorter than 4 ticks.

Although a repeater cannot be set to have a delay of zero, instant repeater circuits are possible (circuits that repeat a signal with no delay).

In Bedrock Edition, the first repeater have a delay of zero but the repeater is still showing 1-tickinfo needed

diode Signal direction
Mechanics/Redstone/Transmission circuit#Diode

A redstone repeater acts as a diode – it allows redstone signals through in one direction (unlike redstone dust or opaque blocks that can transmit redstone signals in any direction).

A diode can be used to protect a redstone circuit from redstone signals feeding back into the circuit from its output, or can be used to isolate one part of a circuit from another.

lock Signal locking
Mechanics/Redstone/Memory circuit

A redstone repeater can be "locked" by another powered redstone repeater facing its side. When locked, the repeater does not change its output (whether powered or unpowered), no matter what the input does. When the side repeater turns back off, the repeater returns to its normal behavior.

A repeater can also be locked by a powered redstone comparator facing its side. This offers additional possibilities for locking signals because a comparator's output can be affected from 3 sides as well as by containers.

If a repeater is locked again too quickly after unlocking (e.g. the lock is controlled by a fast clock circuit), or the lock and the input are changed only on the same tick (e.g. because they're fed by the same clock and both repeaters have the same delay), the repeater does not switch states.

Trivia
Trivia

 • Guardians' eyes will still follow a completely unarmored player under the effects of a Potion of Invisibility, but won't attack them. Guardians will still attack Squids under that same potion effect though.
