This article is about Gold Nuggets. For the ingot, see Gold Ingot. For the block, see Gold (Block). For the ore, see Gold Ore.

The Gold nugget is an item obtained by killing zombie pigmen, and can be crafted into gold ingots, making gold somewhat a renewable item. A gold nugget can be crafted with a melon slice to make a glistering melon and an apple to make a golden apple. On some servers, people choose to use it as currency because of its resemblance to a golden coin.

Trivia

  • On some servers without a money system, Gold is used as a currency as 81 nuggets = 9 ingots = 1 gold block allowing for goods to be purchased.
  • Since Zombie Pigmen carry golden swords with them, it is likely that the gold nuggets are pieces from the destroyed swords since they are not dropped upon death. Only 1/18th of the gold from pigmen's swords are salvaged (assuming 100% drop rate). As of 12w06a, the swords themselves are rarely dropped.
  • The standard droprate of gold nuggets is about 55%. This includes the occasional gold ingot, counted as 9 nuggets.
  • 216 gold nuggets are needed to craft a full set of gold armor.
  • If gold has the same density in Minecraft as in real life, then a Block of Gold weighs about 19.3 tonnes. That means that the Gold Nugget should weigh about 238 kilograms, thus valuing a single minecraft Gold Nugget at over 10 million USD.
  • As of 12w34a, you can use golden nuggets to craft a golden carrot, which can be used to brew a potion of night vision and invisibility.
