This article is about gold ingots. For the ore, see Gold (Ore). For the block, see Gold (Block).

Gold is primarily used to craft clocks, powered rails and for decorative blocks or equipment (tools and armor).

Gold equipment is typically impractical as it has extremely low durability, and can only mine stone, cobblestone, coal and slabs. However, gold tools are the fastest at digging of all tools, and as such may be useful if one is in a hurry and has plenty of gold.

Obtained: smelting of gold ore or craft from gold block.

Creates: sword, armor, tool, gold block, clock, golden apple, powered rail. Gold is a lower-middle tier armor set. It is not suggested to use it for armor, due to it's rarity and rather low durability. Despite its rarity Gold had few uses until 1.5 was added and powered rails were added, and its value increased more when powered rails became mandatory in 1.6.

History

  • When gold tools were first added, the golden hoe had unusually high durability. This has since been changed.
  • Before Beta 1.2, gold tools had both low speed and durability. Currently, gold tools have a higher speed than diamond but break twice as fast as wood tools.
