Glistering Melon is a non-edible item used for imbuing Potions with health restoration effects. It is one of the many potion ingredients that can be used to make Mundane Potions.

Crafting

Glistering Melons can be crafted with a Gold Nugget and a Melon Slice placed anywhere in a crafting grid. Glistering Melons are relatively easy potion ingredients to get, since a basic melon farm can produce lots of melon slices quickly and Gold Ingots can make nine nuggets a piece.

Glistering Melons can be added to Water Bottles to create Mundane Potions, which can then be made into Potions of Weakness. They can also be added to Awkward Potions to create Potions of Healing.

History

Glistering Melon was added in the Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4 on October 13th, 2011. They replaced Ghast Tears as the ingredient to produce Potions of Healing due to the difficulty in getting Tears.[1]

Trivia

  • The name is not a typo of "glistening" - glistering is an English word meaning to shine or glisten.
  • In the language file, the glistering melon is referred to as a "speckled melon".
  • The Glistering Melon appears to face the opposite direction of the normal Melon
  • The Gold Nugget seems to make the Glistering Melon unedible, even though food containing gold in it, like the Golden Apple, can still be eaten.
