Gameplay

  • Villages do not generate on flat land, ruining the gravel path. HTMLfreak
  • Wooden Hoe is not taking damage when being used.
Just tested, my wooden hoe was properly taking damage when used to till grass, and was destroyed when the durability ran out. Are you in creative mode? Killerkerara 17:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Double tapping shift (sneak button) quickly makes you sprint. (I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended) (u.atlihan) 88.229.140.122 14:58, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I didn't seem to have this issue RossRoss 19:05, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When you hit water petals (leafs on water I don't know their name and a name doesn't apear when you hover your mouse over them in your inventory) in a swamp area you can collect them, they appear gray in your inventory and you can't place them anywere. (u.atlihan) 88.229.140.122 14:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed, I assume they are lily pads Killerkerara 15:43, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Disappearing Seedlings while in the farming process. 15:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • The sides of the swamp biomes' grass blocks are in stark contrast to their tops (that is, the shades of green are completely different) 15:57, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
This is only occurring for me on fast graphics setting, which I believe is intentional. Killerkerara 18:10, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Endermen do not get spooked. ( When you look at them.) 15:51, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I've had an enderman chase me down in Creative mode, so it does happen. Somehow. Just not sure if the whole 'freeze and look' thing is working. Moleculor 16:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I also got one to follow me, but it took several attempts. I stared at him for a good minute before he decided to shake and attack. Killerkerara 16:36, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
That is what I meant, they don't stare and freeze as well as they used too, I stared at one for several minutes, and nothing happened at all. 16:41, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Endermen chased me but they don't open their mouths as they should RossRoss 19:07, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Can't place torches on the top of Nether Brick Fences. --Edgeamacated 15:57, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snowfall can cause snow layers to spawn temporarily on top of surface lava pools.
  • Sometimes funky terrain glitches occur, screenshot posted below of reeds spawned above water, single item
  • When standing above water and destroying a block that is below water, that block will not display a breaking animation. Killerkerara 18:24, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Your picture will not show, do not upload to Imgur. done

^Your picture will not show from ANY external hosting service, you gotta create a wiki-account and upload the media internally.

  • When lava meets water it still produces Cobblestone as opposed to Stone as mentioned elsewhere on the 'net about changes. Kereminde 18:50, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Water (examples are from underground springs) now has a semi-transparent and lighter blue texture (at least for me) as opposed to totally opaque blue. Kereminde 20:02, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snowfall causes snow layers to be created in the same block as a torch or ladder destroying the torch or ladder. Nightred 20:12, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow floats over half blocks. Nightred 20:12, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When snowing the snow doesn't appear on the tall grass or it creates a flat layer of snow (flying) above it.
  • When it's snowing, looking straight up, in the imaginary column above you there is no snow falling.
This happens in the rain also, This also happened in 1.8.1. Nightred 20:58, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Memory/CPU

  • I am getting extreme memory/CPU usage when loading new chunks. Bloodyjabs 14:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Ditto Moleculor 15:17, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm getting extreme CPU usage too and possibly related to that sometimes sound effects echoes and again sometimes this echoing continues while game is running smoothly. (u.atlihan) 88.229.140.122 14:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Not sure if it's sound, but I'm seeing increasing memory usage with time in a 1.8pre generated mineshaft with no new chunk generation. I suppose it could be sound-centric although I haven't noticed any echoing, just regular stutters in rendering and 1.75 to 2x memory utilization. --Zalamander 19:43, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I'm getting very high CPU usage on Server/Client ( 100 % ) since 1.9pre1. Sound is sometimes stuttering. CPU usage was fine with 1.8pre versions and 1.8.1 ( approx. 25% ) with 2 players. 85.178.63.183 20:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Crashing

  • My game crashes every time I try to create a new world. It says "Switching Level" then proceeds to close the client. Any suggestions? --Whybanme12345 14:58, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • My Minecraft just crashes and refuses to render a world.
  • Also true for me. Creative and Survival worlds both will not render, and close the client immediately. An error report appears on the desktop.*
  • If you are running on Java, you need Java 7 to run it correctly, I was having the same problem until I downloaded Java 7
I am running Java 6 update 26 and have not experienced any issues. Killerkerara 17:51, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • when i lanch my save I see "saving chuncks" and after a black screen and I must quit the game.
  • I had this issue but updating to java 7 (64 bit) fixed it

Sound

  • Sound effects echoes strangely.

Edit: Only happens when I run game with a "bat" file to allocate more memory to minecraft. 88.229.140.122 14:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

I can confirm this happens with me as well. Only when the .bat file is ran. --Anthrophobic 15:39, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I am also running it through a .bat file, but I haven't noticed any echoes. Is it all sounds, or only specific sounds? Killerkerara 16:20, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I lovered the memory allocated editing the .bat file and now sound problem only happens sometimes. So I think it depends on how much memory you let minecraft to use, the only think I can say is now I can't let minecraft to use as much memory as beta 1.8.
  • Endermen have NO sound what so ever, not even a zombie sound. 16:23, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
It's the same with new mobs. I think it's because sounds will be changed. --Salvo.ilmiosi 17:10, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When I am in a chest/furnace/workbench mobs(spiders in this occasion) sound around 50% louder than they do when not using them RossRoss 17:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Spawning

  • (don't know if it's a bug) Possible spawning in the middle of the ocean meaning swimming in 10 minutes to reach land.

Lighting

  • The torches in mines don't give light
Only some of the torches don't give light. Has this been around since 1.8? Killerkerara 16:22, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Lighting now broken for brick steps

Creative Mode General

  • The item next to ghast tears in the creative mode inventory is unlabeled
This is the Gold Nugget Tenlaven 18:38, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • destroying ice in creative does not drop water. --Salvo.ilmiosi 16:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • It's possible to hit village npcs through blocks and the block won't break --Martan

Server

  • Serious server bug: Gracefully shutting down a server does not wait for chunks to finish saving. Easy to reproduce, start the server with no world. Wait for the spawn point to generate. Shut the server down (gracefully.) When viewing the map, you will see that very few of the chunks have been saved to disk. JiFish 17:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
    • If there were no changes, why save the data? (Could be a "feature") Nobody
      • That wouldn't explain why some chunks have been saved. It looks to me like the server doesn't wait for the new saving chunks thread to finish. This will mean the chunks that have been changed will also not save. I haven't had time to test this. JiFish 18:19, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
        • CONFIRMED that this bug can cause modified chunks to not save. Can't be a feature. JiFish 18:29, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
      • A very good point you have there. Would also aid in reducing server lag. (Could be a "feature") Wizzledonker
        • But then the server has to regenerate them again when starting, significantly increasing load time. Also see my above reply. JiFish 18:19, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Failed to start minecraft_server.jar on linux servers

Confirmed

Biomes

  • A change in Biome to a swamp Biome has a direct change in colors, no shading in between. This will affect grass, tree, water, and wine colors. This screenshot to the right should show what I mean.
    File:2011-09-22 11.27.46.png

Biomes do not change smoothly as seen in the grass color and in water color.

    Bloodyjabs 15:43, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • (Possibly not a bug) Trees are half swamp, half original texture on both leaves and vines when switching biomes.
See above, this is a bug, this also affects grass and water colors. Bloodyjabs 17:23, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Jumping

File

  • The MB size in front of the world file isn't changing. its always 0,0
Confirmed. Worlds created before the pre-release keeps showing their previous size.
Confirmed here too. Bloodyjabs 16:46, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Memory/CPU

  • Excessive lag on new or existing worlds, even if new chunks are not being created. Bloodyjabs 17:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm this. I always had about 30 fps, now its ~2-6. totally unplayable.
  • I recently updated my video drivers and Java trying to kick an "Out of Memory" error I was starting to get. Figured out (tentatively) Creative + Sprint-flight was causing it to bug up. Return to my usual methods of travel (Survival, walking by foot) and no troubles yet. HOWEVER, CPU usage pins itself at 100% when I start the game and stays there. Kereminde 18:45, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Sound

  • Chests don't seem to have a sound for me. Remove this someone if this is only me.
Chests don't have sound for me either. - RossRoss 17:47, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Same here, confirmed. Bloodyjabs 18:14, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Is it possible that they are changing the Chest Sound, and so it doesn't work like the Endermen's and Silverfish's don't? MadDogTen 19:13, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Unconfirmed/Not Bugs

  • Bug found: jumping gives you experience. --Salvo.ilmiosi 14:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed, I got that too. Bloodyjabs 14:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
It's not a bug, Jens tweeted about it [1] Maxovitsj 14:57, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I just flew all the way out to something like +2600 X, didn't see a bit of snow. Flew to -100 X, immediately a huge swath of snow. Is snow only generating in -X areas? Moleculor 15:23, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I did not get this, this is just normal Biome generation, its completely random. Unconfirmed. Bloodyjabs 15:28, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I can't seem to find snow anywhere. Im gonna go exploring now but it is possibly looking like there is just snow in one place? I have no idea, its just strange that I have been wandering for ages and still not found any. RossRoss 17:49, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Mushrooms/Gravel generating in the nether? Is this normal? I can supply screenshot if needed.
Are you serious? These have always generated in the Nether. Bloodyjabs 15:50, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Sorry I never went to the nether. Went there once died with good items that I worked my ass off for and never went back. lol Now there is a reason to go back. Just didn't seem normal to see mushroom or gravel. Sorry. --Anthrophobic 17:00, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I can't seem to punch anything to death in Creative mode. Wielding a weapon works fine. Bug, or am I just a weakling? Moleculor 15:32, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I was able to punch a sheep to death in the normal amount of hits. Killerkerara 16:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Mobs STILL flash black - same with signs and chests
File:2011-09-22 07.48.35.png

This happens to me since 1.8Pre1

I can confirm This, And, its happen to me since 1.8pre1 Too.
This is a lighting bug, and if this has been a problem since an older version, it will be labeled as unconfirmed.
  • Water bucket drops infinite amounts of waters when right clicking.
Not a bug, this is a feature for milk and lava buckets in Creative Mode, this is not present in Survival Mode. Bloodyjabs 18:59, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Not sure if bug or not, but the only way to make a snow golum is if the last block you place in the pumpkin head. If the last block you place to make one is one of the snow block, it won't work.
Not a bug. Bloodyjabs 19:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Snow Golums don't place snow on leaf blocks.
  • If you hold space, you jump once (like when hitting blocks in 1.8pre). --Salvo.ilmiosi 15:08, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
He just twitted that its to test the orbs dropping in SMP. --Anthrophobic 15:09, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
He never said anything about expericence, when you hold the jump button you do not jump repeatedly after that, just like the hold-right click button bug in the 1.8pres. Bloodyjabs 15:14, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed. I have that too. Bloodyjabs 15:15, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Why do people consider this a bug and continue to add it to the Know Bugs page? I don't find that its a bug. I think it should remain how it is now. One click, one jump. Holding it down to continue jumping is pointless. I think it was done on purpose. --Anthrophobic 15:48, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Considering how holding down the right-click disabled block placement was a bug in the 1.8 pres, this is very similar too. If this is not a bug, I cannot see any reason to why it should be removed, as its been in since the very first stages of Minecraft. Bloodyjabs 15:53, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Alright, you win. Just don't see where its confirmed that it is or is not a bug. So it should not be on the page in my opinion. But no reason to argue over it. Get back to testing! lol
I'll just Tweeted Notch and Jens about the jumping bug to let them know about the situation. [2] Bloodyjabs 16:03, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
It's probably related to experience orb test, if jeb let jump button to send a command to give orbs repeatedly that would cause an overload and crashes especially in multiplayer. it's like holding a letter while you're writing something just too much dataaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :)
It doesnt happen while you are in the water. When you are swimming, you continue to "jump". This is probably a feature, 1 jump = 1 click but holding the button down allows you to swim. Its as it should be.
Its not a bug. [3] Bloodyjabs 20:40, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
