Giants are over-sized mobs that were added in the last version of Survival Test. It uses a six times enlarged Zombie model and the sounds of the Player. They are twelve blocks tall. Like Zombies, Giants' only method of attack is to charge into the player. Since Survival Test, Giants have not been used, and they do not spawn naturally. Mods are required to spawn them in more recent versions.

Behavior

Giants (if spawned in the game using mods) are neutral and do not attack the player unless provoked. They appear to have the same, randomized movement as passive mobs.

Giants move slower than a normal mob, a normal mob moves with a speed of 0.7 blocks per second but a giant moves only 0.5 blocks per second. This is faster than the zombie (0.23) but slower than a regular mob.

Giants use the same skin as zombies and yet show almost none of the same behaviors as them. The only similarity would be their attack style; Giants attack by simply ramming the player over and over again as do zombies. It seems as though Giants do not spawn in groups and thus will not back each other up like wolves in the hostile state, or Zombie Pigmen when provoked. Oddly, despite its massive size, Giants can not break blocks. They also only jump one block high, which, in comparison to their massive size, makes them appear to lack the ability to jump.

Unlike Zombies, Giants are not set on fire by sunlight, and also do not have any idling sounds. They make the same sound as the player when hit, and drop 5 XP Orbs upon death.

Bugs

  • Giants must be hit in the legs to take damage. Hits from the "belt" up will not injure it.
  • If a Giant stands in lava, it can't move.

Trivia

  • In spite of the Giant's size, it can only jump one block vertically, making it look like it can't jump.
  • Giants can be considered the least detailed mob. One pixel is roughly the size of a block.
  • Giants used to have the most health out of all the mobs, but since Minecraft 1.2.3 they are on par in health with the Iron Golem and have less health than the Ender Dragon.
  • Iron Golems and Snow Golems will attack a giant, as if it was a hostile mob.
  • Prior to 1.0.0, Arrows fired at Giants would stick in them, but the size was not proportioned properly, giving the stuck arrows a giant sized appearance.
  • Using an inventory editor, the player may give themselves a mob egg for the giant. However, the egg is not usable and will not spawn a giant when right clicked. The only viable way to grant an egg is by using an input inventory editor and typing a command such as /give <player> 383 1 53 which is the item ID.
  • Interestingly, giants gets damaged by Potions of Harming and healed by Potions of Healing, while regular zombies acts the opposite.
  • Giants are currently the only mob in the game that doesn't spawn naturally, with a spawn egg or by a pattern of blocks that still exists in the game.
