Ghast Tears are items that have a chance to be dropped by Ghasts when they are killed. It can be very difficult to obtain ghast tears, due to the difficulty of killing ghasts and because ghasts tend to hover over lava.

Uses

Ghast tears make a regeneration potion effect when they are brewed into a potion. Jeb realized that if a player dies with a ghast tear in their inventory, they could respawn as if nothing happened. However, this was never added.

History

In Beta 1.9 pre-releases 2-3, ghast tears were used to make potions of Healing, but since Beta 1.9 pre-release 4, they have been used in potions of regeneration. This was due to the sheer amount of difficulty in obtaining ghast tears. As a replacement[1], Glistering Melons were added to create potions of healing.

Trivia

  • The ghast tear is featured on the achievement "Return To Sender".
  • Ghast tears are one of the smallest items in the game, along with Gold Nuggets and Iron Nuggets.
  • Ghast tears and iron nuggets are often mixed up due to similarity in appearance.
  • Ghast tears have a drop rate of 30%.
