A Fence Gate is block that functions similarly to doors and is primarily used instead of them to blend with fences. Fence gates can be opened through Redstone input or by right-clicking (unlike doors and trapdoors, which can be opened by left or right-clicking), and always open away from the player. A fence gate can be opened both inwards and outwards. Fence gates can be placed indirectly on top of one another.
Like fences, fence gates count as one and a half blocks tall for the player and mob collisions, and one block tall for all other purposes. This means that when closed, the player cannot jump over a fence gate.
When placed, fence gates will automatically face towards the player, regardless of any other fences around it. However, any fences adjacent to a fence gate will still connect to it. If placed and not connected to anything else, a fence gate will appear to be floating.
There are no double fence gates like double door, but if you place two fence gates beside each other, they will act like one. Although visually there is a center pole in such a double gate, it does not obstruct the player.
Open fence gates will easily allow boats and minecarts through, but minecarts have to be traveling at a high enough speed to reach the track on the other side of the fence gate because fence gates cannot be placed on top of minecart tracks.
Like doors and trapdoors, the fence gate does not allow the passage of water or lava regardless of its state. Fence gates also share the same open/close sounds as doors and trapdoors.

Glowstone dust is an item obtained from mining glowstone, and is mainly used to create potions with increased strength and decreased duration.
Obtaining
Mining
When broken using anything other than a Silk Touch-enchanted tool, a glowstone block drops 2-4 glowstone dust. A Fortune enchantment increases the chances of higher drops, with Fortune III allowing an average yield of 3.5 glowstone dust per block.
Mob loot
Witches have a chance of dropping 0–6 glowstone dust upon death. This is increased by 3 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0-15 glowstone dust. <!-- Do not add the blaze as it is in violation of MCW:UPTODATE due to the Legacy Console Edition being discontinued. ====Guardians and elder guardians====
Guardians and elder guardians have a 2.5% chance to drop a random fish, with 25% of them being raw salmon, which drops as cooked if the guardian was on fire. The chance of getting the fish drop is increased by 1% per level with Looting (for a maximum of 5.5% with Looting III), but the type of fish is not affected.
Polar bears
Polar bears have a 25% chance of dropping 0–2 raw salmon when killed. The maximum amount can be increased by 1 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0-5 with Looting III. If killed while on fire, they drop cooked salmon instead.
Cooking
Obtaining
Fishing
Tropical fish can be obtained from fishing. The wait time of one being caught is decreased with the Lure enchantment and the chance of one being caught is slightly decreased with the Luck of the Sea enchantment (named as such because it increases treasure, not fish).
Tropical fish cannot be caught when fishing in jungle biome and variants.bedrock
<!--1-6 exp-->
Mob drops
Guardians and elder guardians have a 2.5% chance of dropping a random fish upon death. This has a 2% chance of being tropical fish. The chance of getting the fish drop can be increased by 1% per level of Looting, but the type of fish is not affected.
Tropical fish always drop 1 tropical fish in its item form when killed. This drop is not affected by Looting.
Usage
Food
Tropical fish restores 1 hunger and 0.2 saturation.
Trading
Expert-level fisherman villagers have a 1 chance to buy a single tropical fish for one emerald.bedrock
Expert-level fisherman villagers always offer to buy 6 tropical fish for an emerald.java
Wolves
Bedrock, tropical fish can be used to feed wolves, healing them by . However, unlike other wolf food, tropical fish cannot be used to breed or speed up the growth of baby wolves. Tropical fish can be fed only to a wolf that is not at full health.

Bugs
- When you place a fence gate and place fence around it, it may be facing sideways relative to the fence but the fence around it acts as if it is facing the correct way.
- Closed.png
Closed With Bug
- Open.png
Open With Bug
This happens when you are looking down the fence when you placed the gate. The gate faces you when you place it.
- Since 1.9 pre-release 5, fences are no longer considered as full solid blocks, and now allow the player to stand on the same block as it. This hasn't been applied to fence gates, that are still considered as a full solid block. However, as of weekly pre-release 12w01a, fence gates have a refined hitbox matching that of a fence.
- When an open fence gate is next to water when the water is removed the fence gate will close.
- As of 1.1 Fence Gates will close if a block directly adjacent to the gate is removed or altered, such as a piston pulling away, or a block being destroyed. This makes Fence Gate based elevators useless, unless constant power, such as a redstone torch, is used.
- As of 1.1 open Fence Gates will also close when they receive a random block update (same as the random updates used to grow trees, reeds etc) if they are not receiving constant redstone power.
- As of 1.1 Fence Gates can be activated by a redstone circuit or pressure plate.
Trivia
- When a fence gate is placed on top of another gate, the player can place a painting over the gates while they are open. This creates a hidden door. This also works with Wooden/Iron Doors.
- When multiple gates are open next to one another, there is no obstruction at the joints between gates.
- Hostile mobs recognize the fence gate as a block and will not attack you through it unless they have already seen you.
- Unlike wooden doors, fence gates can neither be opened by villagers nor broken by zombies.
- If a fence gate is placed on top of a slab, a chicken can pass beneath it.
- Nether Brick Fences will connect to Fence Gates.
