End Stone (also known as White Stone or Ender Stone) is a new block that appears in The End and makes up the surface of the world. It appears as a white block with a mottled texture that can be found in the 1.9Pre3 and higher terrain.png underneath the End Portal and End Portal Frame textures. End Stone is only successfully mined with a Pickaxe and used to drop Cobblestone like normal Stone. However, mining the End Stone with a pickaxe which has a Silk Touch Enchantment would yield an End Stone block with no nametag if you moused over it. This has been fixed as of 1.9Pre5. Prior to 1.9Pre6 there was no way to leave the End with this block in Survival Singleplayer Mode. As of version 1.0.0 you are able to leave the end with End Stone and it can be mined with any pickaxe. Many people also like to use this for buildings because it looks like a sort of "moon stone" in Minecraft and also has a high blast resistance, 1.5 times of normal stone, higher than that of any other block that CAN be destroyed by an explosion (the ones above it being obsidian and bedrock (not counting water and lava). TNT can also break End Stone. A three block thick wall of End Stone will absorb a regular TNT explosion, and Endermen cannot pick up End Stone blocks. However, as (without Creative Mode on) End Stone is incredibly hard to obtain - requiring you to make a Diamond Pickaxe, mine enough obsidian to create a Nether Portal, kill a Blaze inside the Nether, kill an Enderman, craft the dropped Ender Pearl and Blaze Powder into an eye of ender, repeatedly throw this and follow it until it finds a Stronghold, finish the game (see Article: The End) and mine the End Stone located in The End- as a building material, it is best rationed. When a server is effected by large amounts of lag and large void chunks appear endstone sometimes will form in those spaces.

Trivia

  • The texture is a dark blue Cobblestone texture with its colors inverted.
  • Endermen cannot pick up End Stone.
  • Its blast resistance is greater than normal Cobblestone or Stone, as evidenced by the damage of a single TNT explosion shown here.
  • This block, along with Obsidian, cannot be destroyed by Enderdragons.
  • End portal frames appear to be made of End Stone, with a receptacle for an Eye of Ender on top. Notably, the bottom half of the blocks share a texture.
  • The texture for End Stone changed in 1.9 pre3 from a whiter texture to the current texture.
