Dried kelp is a food item that was added in update 1.13 - The Update Aquatic. They are created if a player cooks kelp in a furnace, smoker, or campfire.

Usage

Dried kelp can be twice as fast as other foods, and can be crafted into a dried kelp block which can be placed for decorative purposes, as a storage block, or used as fuel for a furnace to smelt up to 20 items. Consuming dried kelp will restore 1 (Shank.png) hunger and 0.6 hunger saturation. Dried kelp also has a 30% chance to increase the level of a composter by 1.

Trivia

  • There is an advancement made from eating dried kelp for three Minecraft days called "Castaway."
  • On Bedrock Edition, there is a glitch that when you have coordinates on, and you eat dried kelp continuously while standing in a Nether Portal, then the coordinates, (ex: 4123, 78, 9812), would be the same as they were in the Overworld. (4123, 78, 9812), instead of being 8 times less (515, 78, 1227).
    • SB737 used this glitch to get to the Far Lands in a copy of his world.
