Deepslate is a stone variant found deep underground that functions similar to regular stone.
Obtaining
Breaking
Deepslate can be obtained only by mining it with a pickaxe with the silk touch enchantment, otherwise it drops cobbled deepslate. If broken without a pickaxe, it drops nothing.
| Block | Deepslate | |
|---|---|---|
| Hardness | 3 | |
| Tool | ||
| Breaking time[A] | ||
| Default | 15 | |
| Wooden | 2.25 | |
| Stone | 1.15 | |
| Iron | 0.75 | |
| Diamond | 0.6 | |
| Netherite | 0.5 | |
| Golden | 0.4 | |
- ↑ Times are for unenchanted tools as wielded by players with no status effects, measured in seconds. For more information, see Breaking § Speed.
Natural generation
Deepslate makes up the majority of the solid blocks generated below y = 0 in the Overworld. Stone is gradually replaced from y = 0 to y = -7 until being completely substituted by deepslate.
When the world is generating new chunks, some deepslate becomes mineral veins, and caverns and other underground structures generate at the deepslate level.
Usage
Deepslate can be mined with a pickaxe to obtain cobbled deepslate.

Prismarine crystals are items obtained by defeating guardians or elder guardians. They are used along with prismarine shards to craft sea lanterns.
Obtaining
Mob loot
Guardians and elder guardians have a 40% chance and 1 chance, respectively, of dropping prismarine crystals upon death. The maximum drop count is increased by one per level of Looting.
Mining
Prismarine crystals are dropped by sea lanterns when not using a Silk Touch tool. They drop 2–3 crystals each time, which can be increased to a maximum of 5 using the Fortune enchantment.

Trivia
- Similar to grass blocks, the orientation of the texture varies depending on the coordinates.
