Dead Bushes are not a solid block, but rather an aesthetic weed that does not obstruct movement, similar to Sugar Cane, Wheat and Tall Grass.
Dead Bushes will only spawn on Sand blocks in desert biomes and rarely in swamp biomes. They do not produce any resources when broken.
Uses
The only current use for this item is decoration and can be obtained with an inventory editor, or by using the /give command. It is automatically available to place while in creative mode. As of Minecraft 1.0, Dead Bushes cannot be picked up using shears or by using a tool with the silk touch enchantment.
History
Dead Bushes were added in the Beta 1.6 update. In the Beta 1.8 pre-release 1 update, they were placeable in creative mode and as of the Beta 1.8 pre-release 2 update they have an official name. Dead Bushes could previously be obtained by mining with an axe with the Silk Touch enchantment in the 1.9 pre-release, but this is no longer possible.
Trivia
- The dead bush texture is the sapling texture, with its leaves removed and slightly modified.
- A variant of Tall Grass is visually identical to Dead Bushes but is able to give seeds and has an offset from the ground, like tall grass. Currently this variety of tall grass is only available by using the /give command in multi-player or through inventory editing.
- If the block below the Dead Bush is removed, the bush will disappear without a trace.
