Coral is a solid block which comes in 5 colored variants: blue, pink, purple, red, and yellow. There also is a sixth dead variant.
Obtaining
Coral will only drop as an item if mined with any type of pickaxe. Otherwise, it will drop nothing.
| Block | Coral | |
|---|---|---|
| Hardness | 0 | |
| Tool | ||
| Breaking time[A] | ||
| Default | 0.05 | |
| Wooden | 0.05 | |
| Stone | 0.05 | |
| Iron | 0.05 | |
| Diamond | 0.05 | |
| Netherite | 0.05 | |
| Golden | 0.05 | |
- ↑ Times are for unenchanted tools as wielded by players with no status effects, measured in seconds. For more information, see Breaking § Speed.
Coral is not obtainable in Survival mode, and can only be accessed with the Creative inventory or using commands.
Usage
Coral can only be used as a building block.
Dead coral
In order for coral to stay alive, at least 1 of the blocks touching it must be water. If it's placed outside of water, it will instantly and irreversibly transform into dead coral.
History
| alpha | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| June 28, 2010 | Notch mentioned on his blog: "I tried adding corals, but it’s really hard to draw a single block that looks like corals, since it’s really more about crazy amounts of variation and diversity. But I do know that the corals will have tiny fish particles around them." | ||||
| release | |||||
| November 18, 2017 | Coral were shown in a clip at MineCon Earth. Yellow coral, red coral, blue coral, and dead coral were shown, and in the clip slab variants of coral were shown as well. | ||||
