Copper grates adjacent to other copper grates are invisible when viewed through a copper grate that is identical in states of oxidation and wax. They naturally generate in trial chambers.

Waxing[]
Copper grates can be turned into the respective waxed copper grates by using a honeycomb item on them. Waxed copper grates do not oxidize and are identical to the non-waxed version.
Scraping[]
Using an axe on a waxed copper grate turns it into the respective non-waxed copper grate. In addition, using an axe on an exposed, weathered, or oxidized copper grate reverts it one stage to a regular, exposed, or weathered copper grate respectively.
Lightning strike[]
Non-waxed copper grates are completely deoxidized when struck by lightning, and other non-waxed copper grates nearby are deoxidized randomly.
