Save/Load bugs

i was playing minecraft on my laptop and the laptop force shutdown without me saving the game. when i started minecraft again, the save slot for the world read 'empty' but it loaded perfectly when i clicked it. when it loaded, i noticed that all of my inventory was gone, i died, and when i respawned, my spawn moved roughly 500 blocks diagonaly away from where it originally was. any clue the heck my spawn moved? --WallShadow 00:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Sound bug?

After the 1.0.14 (July 30th) patch I've been having trouble getting the sound to work. I'm not sure what's wrong but most of the time when I start MC the sound doesn't work at all but at one point the sound started working last night and worked for the rest of the night. I don't know what triggers working sound.

Try holding down F3 and then hitting S, that's what works for me. --Aninimouse 15:59, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
That happened to me and I had to re-download the software. The reason your sound probably started working is probably because you got an update. either that or your computer was messing up. --Cornpopz 02:50, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Cacti destroying things

How is that a feature? It doesn't make the slightest sense for blocks that touch the Cacti to be destroyed. We have lava for that. –ultradude25 (T|C) 13:56, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

If we touch cacti, we get hurt. If mobs touch cacti, they get hurt. If items touch cacti, they get "hurt" (destroyed). It's a bit odd, but it makes sense. IChrisI 21:35, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
I understand it from a coding point of view, but for realism it's retarded. Please tell me how a block of stone can be destroyed by touching a Cactus? –ultradude25 (T|C) 06:17, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
It gets stuck inside the block where you can't get it (cactus knocks you away), so it may as well be destroyed if you can't get it. --Nahere 16:27, 30 August 2010 (PDT)
+ I'm not entirely sure this game is centered around a sense of "reality". I mean, stone blocks can float around, trees down fall down when you cut the trunk, and you can pick up lava in a bucket. The cactus "issue", while not necessarily real, IS in keeping with the behaviors surrounding the cactus. MrMatthew 17:49, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Frozen character

I've had this happen to me maybe four times in Alpha. So far it's only happened when I was digging around in a small space and my character suddenly stopped responding to movement keys. I don't appear to be stuck or anything, it's as if the game stops looking for key presses. Saving and exiting the game works as a fix.

Sluggish mouse

I've noticed that the mouse can pause for a 300ms or so when you haven't looked around (moved the mouse) in a while. After moving the mouse, it becomes smooth again. Can anyone else confirm this and the (Frozen character) bug above? --24.67.88.189 17:41, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Could it possibly be that you are using a wireless mouse that enters a type of "sleep mode" that reactivates upon continued movement? I know my wireless mouse does that, and there is a bit of "lag" between moving the mouse and it reactivating. --Dessalet 06:16, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Chest Bug

"Chests sometimes revert contents to previous configuration. Opening a chest, modifying the content, exiting, then going back in displays the items the chest had when it was first accessed. This causes newly placed items to be lost and removed items to be duplicated."

This is a questionable bug I added. I'm sure it has happened a bunch of times, and I just didn't accidentally drop items. I have rearranged all the blocks in a chest gone out ran to anther chest, come back to put something else in and all the items are back to where they were before. I've also lost a 64 count iron stack from this... Alpha ivan 19:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

I have discovered this, and i am exploiting it for my testing world. This happens because your inventory is continuously updated, but blocks, including chests, are only updated upon save. My method for duplicating is

- put in chest
- save
- remove from chest
- close window or MC launcher

Then when i open up again i have the item in the chest and the inventory. This way i got a large chest of tracks from 4 bars and a stick. (although it never happens to me during a session) Melzardust 16:22, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

  • "Putting any item(s) in a large chest before quitting, opening it and putting the item(s) into your inventory, then pressing ALT F4 and opening it again will duplicate the item(s)." This bug appears to be fixed, and attempting to reproduce it now may cause you to lose the stack(s) you are trying to duplicate. --Doctor Zuber 00:40, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Bug discussion

This might need it's own page, or be ignored entirely.

  • Arrows hitting doors can float if the door changes it's open/closed state.
Suggested fix? When the door opens the arrow is knocked off. Moving with the door doesn't seem feasible. Alpha ivan 19:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
  • Arrows can seem to be floating when hitting fences.
No idea how notch would fix this. The fence is a block, the arrow hits the edge of the block, the edge of the block just happens to be transparent. Alpha ivan 19:27, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
  • If there are too many mine carts in a world, the game will crash.
Exactly how many?
  • If you go under a water stream your boat will accelerate and rise towards the sky.
I think this should be considered a feature now.

More possible bugs

Some possible bugs I've noted:

  • If you save and exit the game while on a layer of glass, when you resume the world you may fall through the glass to whatever is below. (Happened once so far, haven't tried to replicate it).
  • In a winter world, only the top layer of water is frozen. I have not checked to see if any broken ice will re-freeze or not.
  • A related bug: If you dig under the ice and strike water you will get a bugged visual (the ocean water will be invisible, however any water streaming off of that water tile will be visible, leaving an odd missing square appearance).
  • If you stand in a square with a lava square diagonal from it but blocked from adjacent squares you can still get caught on fire (found that one out the hard way clearing some obsidian). IE from a top-down view something like below (with cobblestone being basically anything), you could be considered as hitting the lava if you press into the corner. --Lordebon 17:37, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Lava Cobblestone
Cobblestone you
This only happens to one corner. It's the principle behind water column elevators. Last paragraph. Jaeil 21:35, 21 November 2010 (CST)

In winter worlds, only exposed water is frozen. It's not a bug. Also, the thing about lava affecting you through corners, the same thing happens with items. Sometimes lava burns items through corners. PurpleKiwi 01:41, 24 October 2010 (CDT)

  • Has anyone looked into the fact that sometimes in SMP we can't remove cobblestone stairs? I've got the new server software (as of the halloween update) Its still a problem.
  • Spawn points can spontaneously change location. I can pull out my compass and face the direction of the spawn and disconnect. Then sometimes when I reconnect The compass points in another direction.--Idiotninja 15:45, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Furnace broken in SMP?

While it doesn't seem to always be the case, I keep running into furnaces that delete the items I put into it - both the fuel and the item to be smelted, leaving me with nothing at all :/. And, the animation for the furnace continues on indefinitely. Is that something server-specific or are others getting that bug? Squarethoughts 19:10, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

We get this issue on my server as well. It seems to happen most if you disconnect/reconnect while something is inside the furnace. If you disconnect then come back, the items will be gone most of the time. There's about a 40% (present)/60% (missing) chance that the items will be there for a short window when you first open the furnace. If you're quick you can pull them out before they disappear. This is caused by the fact that we get a lag bug where being in the server for 5-20 minutes often produces unplayable lag, placed blocks will disappear then reappear, chat will take 30 seconds to a minute to register after being sent, etc (this is new after the boo update). We notice the furnace bug usually when disconnecting/reconnecting to fix this lag problem. Relatedly, furnaces often don't face the correct direction until you try to use them, at which point they suddenly turn to face you. --Neromir 00:00, 4 November 2010 (CDT)
I've noticed in SMP that if another player looks into a furnace that a different player set up, it will glitch the furnace and usually completely destroy whatever was smelting/cooking inside. This happens nearly all the time. Redeclipse 22:42, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Inventory Movement Bug

I've found that if I go into my inventory and press W just a half second later, my character will move in that direction without having to hold the W key. As in, identical to the chest glitch, but with the inventory. Zetal 21:26, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Yup, I use this a lot to walk through long corridors. It happens because Minecraft sees the ButtonDown but not the ButtonUp. (in the programming)--PurpleKiwi 21:58, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Lever Bug, related to Button Bug (SMP)

I've noticed that if you place levers in a 1x2 corridor (just enough space for you to walk in), the levers will sometimes switch onto the opposite block after they are activated by other players, and will then behave much like the button bug (can't take them off without destroying the mounting block). This seems to be a purely visual bug, as the redstone circuit depending on the levers still seemed to function normally. Seems to be a pretty similar problem to what was happening with doors before the boo update. --Neromir 00:07, 4 November 2010 (CDT)

I've noticed the same thing, they tend to turn to a certain direction after activation, same things sometimes happens to torches. To me, redstone wires were no longer activated because of this. -Zion007 14:47, 20 November 2010 (RST)

Flower and Fire bug

I've noticed that in SMP, when ever and where ever there is a fire and you "plant" a flower on it, you can always place that plant regardless if it is touching the ground.

I.E. A log on fire can have a plant on its side floating in mid-air.

Sometimes the plants falls off and can be retrieved by the player. Can anyone confirm?

Invisible Creepers?

The bug " Blocks in areas of approximately 5x5x5 around the player will randomly disappear / break and you can pick them up again. " seems really related to the invisible mobs bug. I had an invisible creeper blow up next to me, dealing no damage but destroying the ground. Should this bug remain? --Ruan942 15:26, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Minecart mob bug - Seen in player avatar

I encountered the bug "If a mob is riding a mine cart and 2 (or more) mine carts get stuck in each other, after destroying or moving the carts away from the other carts the mobs will be invisible" in a special way with ME and a sheep being invisible. Superpowers =P Melzardust 13:27, 11 November 2010 (CST)

Using buttons/redstone while in a cart

I've got a button on my server attached to some track down the line. I push it while stopped in the minecart and it doesn't seem like it works. I've been able to replicate the problem quite a few times while sitting in the cart, but every time I use the button while not in the cart, it works normally. Can anyone verify? --Neromir 20:25, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Make bigger chests that 1x2

As for the reed: "Reeds can be placed on blocks that are not grass if placed on a water block" - The same goes for the chests. make a 1x2 chests and then place a water source next to it and place a new chest on the water source. You will then have a 1x3 chest.v--Dr. Weir 21:25, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

mac World Select bug not on all systems

The first bug listed for SSP is the Mac OS X World Select bug. I've never had this issue on my Mac, but I've only been playing for a couple of months. Is this an old (and now fixed) bug? Adeilt 22:44, 13 November 2010 (CST)

SSP or Alpha?

I beleive it should be listed as "Alpha" because thats the name most people use. -F1racer101 22:56, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

"Alpha" describes SSP and SMP. If you just say "Alpha" there is ambiguity. Adeilt 02:17, 19 November 2010 (CST)

Invisible Enemies

Well, I had invisible monsters in multiplayer, so I searched the internet and it says the reason for it is that difficulty is set to Peaceful. So, the game just ignores the monsters, almost like it is giving you false comfort. For now the monsters don't do anything, but come tomorrow's update we will have health in SMP, and I personally think it would be hilarious to watch the peaceful people killed by monsters they can't see.--Pizza2004 22:24, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Question on some entries.

Hello everybody, I was going through the bug entries and noticed some odd ones:

  • If a block is removed from behind a painting, it will pop off the wall when a player touches it after a reload, even if it is a multi-block painting and there are other blocks still behind it.

Is this a bug? If I remove the nail on which a painting is hanging, then the painting is sure to come off. Regardless how big it is. You can even see the string on which a painting is going to be attached to a wall in your inventory.

  • Riding in a minecart on above track may cause your player's image to disappear until you die or reopen Minecraft.

What does this mnean? Is the track above you while you are riding it or is the minecart on a track?

  • A player will pass through the minecart, but when the player is passing through it counts as "pushing" the minecart.

Isn't this what you'd expect the minecart to do? Or did the poster meant that you can pass thorugh a minecart?

  • Zombie Pigmen do not attack when hit. This is most likely due to the invincibility glitch.

Invincibility is gone, do zombie pigmen still not attack?

Metalhannes 18:08, 24 November 2010 (CST)

Crashing then suffocation?

Not sure if this has already been covered, but I couldn't find it anywhere. In SSP I've had the game crash a few times, while I'm destroying large numbers of blocks for quarries or bases. When I load up the map again, all the blocks are back where they were at the last save, but I'm where I was when the game crashed. Since in some cases other blocks were there first, I suffocate. Has anyone else had this? Somnicule 06:11, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

It's entirely possible. Minecraft saves your inventory/origin often, but you have to save the world manually. If the game crashes, your origin would be in the quarry, but the world would revert back to flat ground, thus you end up underground and suffocate. I've had this happen in beta too. --Zkyo 13:33, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

A few more bugs

  • When you place a torch on a tree's leaf block, it does not make a sound, nor does it decrement your inventory. Tested in SMP.
  • Crouching does not prevent hoed ground from being trampled.
  • Mobs spawning on top of trees?
  • Creepers are difficult to kill without exploding, perhaps the distance to diffuse them is off. xkeitarox--Xkeitarox 12:34, 27 November 2010 (CST)

Actually, only the first one is a bug, I think...Sneaking (Crouching) Is SUPPOSED to prevent farmland from being trampled. Mobs CAN spawn on top of trees, if it is set to Fast Mode, rather than Fancy, as on Fancy, the leaves are considered transparent. And Creepers are difficult to kill without exploding because, depending on difficulty, you have to go further to make it recharge. Stinkbug22 16:44, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Crouching does prevent crops from being trampled. I'm not sure about farmland though. The mobs spawn on trees because on fast graphics, the leaves count as opaque blocks. In SMP graphics are set to fast in the server, even if the clients have it set to fancy, thus mobs will spawn on top of transparent leaves in smp. As for the creepers, the distance does change on different difficulties. Also, they sometimes explode if you are far enough away. This is due to lag. A problem i often have when fighting creepers in smp: they hiss, i back away far enough, the counter resets. Even after 10 seconds or so, they explode instantly once in range, without a countdown. Also, they sometimes explode completely randomly, even if i'm 8+ blocks away. It's rather annoying, i once had a creeper blow up my front door while i was on the other side of my house, on an empty server. --Zkyo 13:42, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Minecart duplication

One of the bugs about the duplicating minecarts from a cannon needs to be updated:

  • You don't have to be in it
  • it sometimes works with 1 TNT
  • and it works in current version

--Lanky ninja 07:32, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Strangely, i've never gotten any drops from a minecart tnt cannon. Maybe it was from lag, and the cart drop got blown up too, idk. --Zkyo 13:43, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

cactus placed next to smooth stone

I have noticed that you can place an cactus next to smooth stone in water, probably this is caused at same bug by reeds. Ferry 19:48, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

I just did something similar to this [I haven't tested ^this though]; I put a Cactus on a sand, and to 3 of the sides of the Cactus, are more sand blocks, and to one side is water. The cactus is not breaking, and it is just sitting there. --DwarfWoot 05:19, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

It's a bug. You can place cactuses almost anywhere in water, even with blocks on all 4 sides. As soon as a nearby block is updated, or the cactus grows, it pops out. --Zkyo 13:45, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Fullscreen/Windowed inventory glitch

When I toggle from full screen to windowed mode, I am no longer able to use the mouse cursor to click on things, such as items in inventories or buttons in the menu. Pressing keys, aiming, and clicking the mouse work fine. It's only the cursor that has the problem. When I return to full screen, it's fine. I suspect the issue is that the game thinks my mouse cursor is far off screen to the left, because my avatar in the inventory screen stares off to the left, regardless of how I move the mouse. He still looks up and down with my mouse, however. --Kuilk 17:55, 20 December 2010 (CST)

This is most likely a problem with the MouseMotion listener in Java, seeing as it only has an effect on the position of the mouse. Fright01 × 18:33, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I find this bug rather irritating. I get a 10 fps increase in fullscreen mode, and i also tend to get alot of IM messages. If i switch away to answer several, its annoying that i can't use the menus in windowed mode anymore. --Zkyo 13:48, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Tooltip misspelling (beta)

When you hover the curser over netherstone it comes up with netherack, i assume it's supposed to say netherock.

-- Lanky ninja 20:18, 20 December 2010 (CST)

It has been confirmed that netherrack is the correct spelling. Zephyriphoenix 16:23, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Doors and cacti

I am using version 1.2.1_01 (Halloween update), and when reproducing the glitch related to doors and cacti, the doors I get are always collectable. For example, I could place a door between two tall cacti and that would get me two collectable doors. Hell, I got 8 doors from one this way. Also, doing this with tall cacti seems to destroy all the cactus blocks but one. --Mega-Mario 16:42, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Confirmed bug. I actually use this as a door farm when i make door traps. :D --Zkyo 13:50, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Various SMP bugs

  • Ambiance sounds do not play in SMP.
  • Sometimes, the horizon will render as a single terrain pattern repeated endlessly, and will change shape by walking towards it. I have only seen it happen on SMP, and only since Beta.
  • The collision reach for mobs seems much, much longer in SMP.
  • Rapidly throwing Eggs in SMP will cause the client to crash.
  • Monster Spawners have no fire effects in SMP.
  • When a pickaxe breaks at the same time as you destroy a block, you can't collect the destroyed block if it can't be collected barehanded.
That last one irritates the crap out of me. You don't know how many times i've lost diamonds/redstone to that glitch. D:
It only occurs in SMP, at least thats what i've noticed. --Zkyo 13:52, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

More stuff

  • Seems like mob spawners are entirely fixed, not sure about SMP tho.
  • When placing a TNT next to an active redstone wire, so that the TNT is connected to the wire, it does not detonate.
  • "If you place dirt under bedrock, till the dirt then place the seeds, the bedrock disappears." -> This can be reproduced with any block (not just bedrock). And it can also be reproduced in SMP.

WARP SPEED bug

"Start a new world, then set your clock to one hour ahead. WATCH THE GAME COMPENSATE." [1] Is this a valid bug? Toomai Glittershine 15:29, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Debatable. Minecraft uses your system clock as a reference for time (early speedhacks made your system clock go faster). I'd say it's not really a bug, more as a glitch that shouldn't happen in the first place (who just randomly changes their clock ahead? exceptions being DST) Sparx 04:51, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

I've actually gotten this glitch for a small moment without tampering with any clock at all. Hmm, weird? I was mining a single tree branch at the time. Codyfun123 02:41, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I've had the warp speed glitch happen to me as well without editing my clock. I was just mining smooth stone at the time (it might have been some ore) very useful glitch for what i was doing at the time but it slowly went away as i moved any direction but forward (I don't remember if looking and moving forward did the same thing or not.) Just a little bit of what i went through --Lazeman 08:01, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Screenshot Crash

I tried Sneaking (Shift), and then using F2 to take a Screenshot, and the game froze, causing me to need to kill the process. (Windows 7, Single Player) I was also at the Highest block level, if that makes any difference.

Also, not related to this, but related to screen shots; I stretched the window the have more horizontal sight, and was then unable to take a screen shot, instead getting an error message where it normal says "Saved blah blah blah" --DwarfWoot 15:19, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Holy shit, that's quite a nasty bug. Trippy, but mostly nasty. The 3D warped and rotated violently for me. Windows 7, SP. Good catch, wonder if this is reported on GetSatisfaction.. Also confirmed the other bug. Will add, cheers. --Gnu32 16:20, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
That's interesting, I tried the second bug again and it's just not coming up... will investigate further before adding to the list. --Gnu32 16:25, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for not mentioning the .tga file, I did see it, but wasn't sure at the time what the .tga was (I figured that it was some sort of an error). Also, I have x64 bit with 8GBs RAM, plus a ReadyBoost dedicated 8GB FlashDrive, and I can't overcome either errors. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough for the crazyness to go away? I tried waiting for about a minute or two before ending the game. And yeah, thanks for explaining/links. --DwarfWoot 17:56, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
In the Twitter post, it sounds like it is not supposed to do that ("I just realized" sounds like bug discovery to me), leading me to interpretate it as Shift+F2 is in-fact a bug, caused by said "Half-finished huge screenshot test code", and that the feature is not supposed to be there at all yet. With this thinking, it seems like it should be listed as a bug, with possibly a link to the Twitter (if only to warn others until the real version of Huge SSs are implemented). --DwarfWoot 18:03, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
When I get home tonight, I'll see how long it takes. Definitely more than 2 minutes, but I've only got 2GB ram until tax return. Apparently irfanview and gimp will open them. Photoshop will toss an error. If you watch the screen go weird, you'll see it's zooming in on various spots of the screenshots (it seems like). I just went to something else (the game will continue when it's done) and made a sandwich. After a while, I clicked back on it and it was done. I didn't get a chance to open my image, though. Thevdude 18:46, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
So it's not a bug? Call me a fool (for i am one) but if something doesn't run the way it's supposed to, im pretty sure that is a bug, otherwise, i want an explanation as to why it's considered a "feature" and not a "bug". Dessalet 06:42, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
I still think it's a bug , because the undocumented huge screenshot feature uses the same keybind as making a screenshot while sneaking.. The fact that there is a undocumented feature to make large screenshots is ok, even if it crashes minecraft on most computers. But it's still conflicting with making screenshots while sneaking :S Lalophobia 10:36, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Well it _was_ a bug apparently, because it seems to be fixed ;) Does anyone know the new keybind for the large screenshot, it's not shift f2 any more :) Lalophobia 14:38, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Mouse Windowed bug

I never mentioned this because I figured that it would have been pointed out by now, but It isn't. When in Windowed mode, when the player has the mouse visible (Menu, Inventory, etc.), if the mouse is taken away from the game and then brought back, the mouse will take on the appearance it last had outside of the game (So, if entering from the sides of the game, the mouse will be Left-Right Resize arrows, etc.). Not a game hindering bug, as the mouse if still fully functioning, however it is clearly a bug, and visually annoying. This is fixed by exiting the current screen (Menu, Inventory, etc.). (I saw the When Exiting Fullscreen bug, but this is not the same thing) --DwarfWoot 18:17, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

I hate this one so much. I'm always all "YEAH, THAT'S HOW I MAKE THAT STUFF!" and I go back to minecraft and have little up and down resize arrows. IDK what causes or how to fix that one, though. Thevdude 19:01, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
So you agree that it is a bug then? I don't see why it wasn't added to this list a long time ago lol. As far as fixing it goes, the quick fix is of course, closing the current object (In game Menu, Inventory, etc.), but as far as a real fix, I had suggested a few weeks ago in the forums that the game implements its own cursor (like a Pixeled Cursor, that matches the MineCraft look), because as long as the Windows mouse is hidden, there is no issue. --DwarfWoot 20:49, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Wool Bug

I just noticed that when holding multiple colors of Wool (Have 2+ different colors by one another on the HotSpots) if you switch from one wool to another, then the color of the one you are holding changes to that color before the player physically switches the items. (If my explanation didn't make sense, try switching between Wool and Cobble, then try mine, and you should more clearly see what I am referring to). I first noticed this when playing InBrowser Beta, as it is a fraction slower, then tested it again on the .exe Single Player. --DwarfWoot 21:26, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Another bug with wool, you can't use bonemeal to craft white wool blocks, unless you START with a white wool block. You have to use it BEFORE you punch the sheep to get white wool from any other color (light grey and such) wool. --Thevdude 15:48, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Of course. As you can not get a red wool starting with a blue wool… – Scaler (t) 15:55, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
You can dye a blue sheep white with the bonemeal, however. Bonemeal is the most useless dye! Thevdude 17:16, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
so the only way to dye wool is to dye the sheep or start with white wool? So the only use for bone meal as a dye would be to make lighter colors or to change a colored sheep back to normal? That seems like a fail.--Cornpopz 02:53, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
I think that this is balanced by the fact that Bonemeal is such a great farming item, where as many dyes can do nothing else. --DwarfWoot

Custom Controls

In the article it says that controls revert to normal after updating, but every time I start playing my custom controls are reset. Does anyone else have this problem or am I doing something wrong? --Cornpopz 02:48, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

I haven't had this problem in a long time. Try deleting the minecraft.jar and the version file, and redownload them by running the minecraft.exe --Thevdude 16:48, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
-No, don't delete anything. Just open the client and click the Multiplayer button on the title screen, then try to connect to a server. Any IP address will do, even if it's not real (Just make up a series of numbers). When attempting to connect, a certain file in the coding gets overwritten which causes your controls to reset. After doing this, your custom controls will be preserved when you exit the client. TenhGrey 19:50, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Umm no, it's because of how the loop-read for the options file is setup. They didn't setup the errorlevel correctly in the loop-read so when no value is detected on that key (lastServer:) it pretty much stops loading the config file there. As you will notice, your custom key bindings are right below this value. You could just edit your Options.txt and put a 0 as the value for that key. If this were an ini file (as it's formatted like), they could index through it as such, and no such problem would occur. The method above would work too, but the reason is not even close to the actual problem. MDR 08:39, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Walk in/fall through blocks

There are a few ways to walk in/fall through a block that you shouldn't be able to.

  • Break a minecart (boat?) while on a block. You'll fall into the block, or through it if there isn't anything beneath it.
  • Crouch, save and quit, then come back. Same effect as before.
  • (this one is new to me) have a water current push you against a block. Save and quit, then come back. Same effect.

Can anyone verify the last one? --Thevdude 17:21, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

I made several attempts to duplicate the last one on different types of blocks, and none seemed to work. When i tried to move around the block, i couldn't. --AParkedCar 14:55, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Just tried again, isn't happening. There was a torch on the block, maybe that has an effect? --Thevdude 01:23, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
The following patch appears to fix the issue when breaking a minecart while riding it. Prior to the patch, if you are riding a minecart and you break it, you fall through to the next block below rather than end up on the track. If there is no block below you will continue to fall and potentially take damage. I've only tested this patch in single player while destroying the cart I am riding. I am posting this here so others may try it out. UsedOnlyTwice 11:50, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Invisible PC, 3rd person view

It's only a minor cosmetic bug, but when you stand above layer y=128 (maximum height), switching to 3rd person view will render your player character invisible until your head moves below the the top edge of the map. This probably also happens with NPC mobs, but this is untested. TenhGrey 19:44, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

About beds

  • Sometimes when you wake up there will be a hostile mob right beside you.

Is this actually a bug? Something tells me that a poorly placed bed is intended to cause this. I'd agree it's as a bug if this occurred somewhere with a safe home though. Alphap 00:56, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

  • Look in the bed topic. It says it is there. --Coupon22 00:57, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

I found a teleport bug, should it go here? Anyway, two people on SMP server, admin and op. Admin gets into a bed in a two block high space, teleports op to him. Op is standing on bed and suffocating, but admin can see op's head apparently in the same bed. How do I sign this anyway? Bobbobbob 06:46, 8 April 2011 (UTC)bobbobbob

  • You can sleep during a thunderstorm, even during the day.

Is that a bug or a feature? Don't storms make it dark enough to spawn monsters during the day? Besides, staying in bed on a rainy day is not exactly unheard of, though usually with a good book. :) -User:Benjaminkc

Duplication Glitch Gone?

I heard that the glitch that allowed you to duplicate items using large chests was fixed/removed in the February 22nd update. Is that true? Superfield 14:38, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Screen Flickering and Game Deletion

When running in Full-Screen on a computer with no graphics card, then switched to Window-Mode, Minecraft flickers, partially showing hidden caves and lava pits. When switched back to Full-Screen, it continues to flicker. If you then exit to the menu while in Full-Screen, the computer will crash and the game is deleted.
This can be avoided by switching to Window-Mode, pressing ESC for the Pause-Menu, which will Autosave, and closing the tab (or browser window) without quitting Minecraft.

I don't know whether this is a bug, or just the computer crashing, but it has happened twice. -- ClapNZ 04:47, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Stacking Fishing Rods

Fishing rods are stackable in SMP. When you stack an undamaged rod with a damaged one and then seperate the stack, both rods will have the same damage on them as the damaged rod. I haven't tested any further. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Death and Taxes (Talk|Contribs) 12:54, 21 March 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

record exiting jukebox glitch

I don't know if this glitch happens in SP, but in MP when taking the record out of the jukebox, it creates 2 images of it. The original can be picked up, but the other image can not be picked up.

Rigorous testing!

I'm going to be testing a lot of bugs, as this page seems to have a few bugs that are no longer present (i.e. the current first one on the list, creating an "error" message whenever the game is closed). Please don't revert if I remove sections. Megabobster 01:39, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
Done with all the SSP bugs, note that I didn't do ANY bugs that were "sometimes", "it is possible", etc. I removed all bugs that were definitely not there (i.e. when you do this, something else ALWAYS happens) and even added a few I found along the way. I also didn't do the OSX bugs for 2 reasons: 1, I don't have a Mac, 2, I'm pretty sure they were also "sometimes". I might do the SMP bugs tomorrow, as I believe those are a bit more important. Jumping onto ladders?

I cannot jump up to a ladder and proceed to climb it, which was a useful way of dividing floors of my base. Does anybody else have this bug? The ladder is in the block above me, I jump and hold forward. (forgot to add name, and got the time wrong >_<) Kratoyd 17:14, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

I don't think that's a bug. It's part of the new 1.5 update. You can only go on ladders if your lower half touches it. It's to prevent the gaps in the ladders people use.It does suck you can't jump up onto it. --Bloodarowman 17:12, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Grass not growing under certain blocks

I notice that we have the bug about grass not growing under fences and signs, (though grass remains if thy are placed on it,) but what about under doors and sugar cane (the sugar cane actually makes sense, so I'm not sure that part is a bug) are there other blocks that do this? I am playing smp, and I'm not sure if any plugins are affecting stuff, also I havn't been able to get on since 1.5, so if the issue is mine or has been resolved feel free to ignore me. Jeb's Comments

I'm just going to comment on some of these bugs.

General

  • Occasionally, picked up items will not appear in the inventory.
    • This probably only occurs in multi-player, and is an result of the client seeing an item that doesn't actually exist. I would appreciate if people could be more specific on the circumstances of this problem, so we can find it.
  • If you die while viewing your inventory, your character will fall out of the box and will be rotated sideways. The player's skin will also be reverted to default after a few moments.
    • This is not a bug.
  • A bug exists where the game may refuse to remember custom controls after updating (not to a specific version - just updating in general). This is caused by one of the values in Minecraft's "options.txt" file being unset, usually the "lastServer" field - attempting to connect to any multi-player server address (valid or otherwise) typically resolves the problem.
    • I think this has been fixed.
  • If you place four blocks so that they can stop the flow of water then place water or lava into it you can put a cactus piece into it.
    • I think this has been fixed, too. Previously there was a special condition for water tiles, which Notch has removed.
  • When Java crashes, your work sometimes cannot be saved and you may have a new respawn point.
    • Technically this is not a bug, because how should we save the world when the game isn't running? =) Java shouldn't crash, though...

Beds

  • Sneaking does not prevent you from falling off beds, however the player can't walk directly on them as one would stairs
    • Sneaking will only prevent falling heights that are 1 block or taller.
  • Sneaking while sleeping can produce some interesting and varying results, from not being able to see limbs to being able to see yourself and toggle between sneaking and not sneaking.
    • From Beta 1.5 the game automatically turns off sneaking when you try to sleep in a bed.
  • If you try to activate a bed you are standing on it will not work giving the error message "You can only sleep at night".
  • If you try to activate a bed when you are too far away it will not work giving the error message "You can only sleep at night".
    • This has been fixed in Beta 1.5.
  • Beds placed in fully enclosed (on both sides and with only one space above) areas can cause you to wake up inside a wall, killing you and potentially destroying your items.
    • Technically the bug is that you shouldn't be allowed to sleep there =)

Cactus

  • Cacti cannot be placed next to a portal.
    • This is a behavior more than a bug.

Mobs

  • In The Nether, Ghasts spawn on peaceful, but they would not to do anything. A ghast will disappear soon after appearing.
    • This should be fixed now.

Paintings

  • Paintings have no player or object collision(players, mobs, and entities can pass through them, and non-solid blocks can share the same position a multi-pane painting is in).
    • Paintings are not supposed to have object collision.

SMP Beds

  • Trying to get into bed while sneaking disconnects the player(Illegal Stance).
    • Although the problem is the same, sneaking should be automatically turned off when sleeping in 1.5.

SMP Boats

  • Boats greatly increase server lag. Attempting to move in the boat invokes noticeable delays.
    • I would like to see more research about this. I don't think it's the boats' fault per se, but rather because players are traveling quickly to unloaded chunks (i.e. causing server lag because more chunks must be generated and/or sent to the client(s)).

SMP Doors

  • When attempting to stack doors, one will be deleted.
    • ? ? ? ? =)
      • Not sure if you're still reading this but this means that when you attempt to place a door on top of another door, the topmost door will be lost. Placing doors on other doors is probably not intended, but if this is possible to fix, we could make impressive-looking quadruple doors. LTK 70 19:22, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

SMP Fences

  • Standing on top of fence posts triggers the anti-flying protection.
    • Fixed in Beta 1.5_01

SMP Furnaces

  • Furnaces rotate when they are used. This seems to be influenced by the blocks placed around them.
    • This should be fixed in Beta 1.5... Can somebody verify it still occurs?

SMP Minecarts

  • Minecarts that pass over pressure plates will sometimes not activate a redstone current, even though a "click" noise is heard.
    • This will probably never be fixed.

SMP Mobs

  • Every mob will freeze, when the server is timed out.
    • Oh come on! =) A lot of stuff will freeze if the server times out.
  • When slimes divide in SMP they often create many fake duplicates which are invulnerable, and inflict no damage. Disconnecting/Reconnecting causes these fake slimes to disappear. This bug does not occur in Survival (SP) mode.
  • When slimes divide, they can create larger slimes.
    • These should have been fixed.

SMP Saddles

  • Saddles will return to the player's inventory if the pig de-spawns. This obviously demonstrates that saddles on pigs are not fully server-side.
    • I think this was fixed in Beta 1.3.

SMP TNT

  • Currently there is a problem that the explosion occurs client-side too, but the effects are reverted by the server-side explosion. This sometimes causes certain blocks to reappear or disappear after the explosion, because the client-side coordinates are not exactly the same as the server-side ones.

Crashes reverting to earlier save

To paraphrase Jeb's words, if Java crashes, you'll certainly lose progress since there's no way for the game to save. There's no way around that. When you say "revert to an older version", how much older are we talking? I assume it's just a few minutes. If you're losing a half hour of building, then it's probably worth attention. --Theothersteve7 15:29, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

I mean it will revert to the last time you manually saved the chunks in SSP. I mean when you choose the save and quit option, not just hit esc to save your items/position. I had it crash, and revert back about an hour to when i had saved the day before. That was about 5 days ago. Yesterday, was my server. I have no idea what happened, it never crashed. I just noticed that the spawn had randomly changed, along with the world seed. That happened to me several times on SSP. The chunks saved, but the level.dat file was re-written, so i lost what i was holding, and had a new spawn. As far as I know, the spawn change can be fixed simply by loading a backup of the level.dat file into the server. --Zkyo 15:37, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
That's interesting, I was under the impression that the world saved frequently as you went along. Definitely worth being on this page, then. I would classify the regenerating of level.dat as a separate issue (but certainly an issue). Now I'm curious how it's handling this. *edit* and I see you already did just that, thanks. It also occurred to me that maybe the crash caused the file to be corrupt, and so it reverted to a backup instead of destroying your world entirely; at which point I'd say it needs to write changes to that backup while playing if at all possible. --Theothersteve7 15:46, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
I used to think the same thing too. It reguarly does a partial save, most likely to the level.dat. That leaves more options for a write error, causing it to become corrupted. The actual chunks only save manually though. It is possible the crash caused it to be corrupt, but the spawn didn't actually change for a few days after. Plus, there was no crash when my server's spawn changed. now, when I get home, i get to use mcedit and move the spawn for like the 7th time on that server world D: --Zkyo 15:55, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I hear you. On the whole, the save system could stand to be more robust. I hate building an awesome world and discovering the seed has changed partway through. Ugh. --Theothersteve7 16:01, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Half Blocks

The other day i generated a snowy world and built my house on the ice. I had to raise the floor up so i used a pathway of half blocks (slabs) to my house and noticed that the slipping effect on ice still occurs on slabs. I haven't tried this since the patch beta 1.5_o1 so it might be fixed now.

I can confirm this happens in 1.5_01 too, additionally it happens to the bottom step of stairs on ice. -AlphapT~C 02:59, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Another confirm. Should be added somewhere on the Page since Notch is now on a bug-fix trip. --Tempelchat 15:50, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Stair visibility bug

I just encountered the stair visibility bug while swimming backwards and making a clumsy bridge of stair blocks while I was fooling around earlier, and it appears that their visibility may not actually be directly linked to proximity to water. It became invisible toward the end, and also onto land. [3] -AlphapT~C 02:59, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

I believe this was linked to a chunk-based visibility bug. Chunks are 16x16x128, and subdividing them into 8 sections vertically, yielding 16x16x16 sectors, and placing one stair (or fence) in that sector will render it invisible. Darkid 03:31, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Tree growing with bonemeal: addition

"Using bone meal to quick-grow trees will sometimes cause "floating" trees to grow with the sapling still at the base. Removing the sapling or using more bone meal can cause the tree to grow into an enormous bundle of leaves with no log base. These leaves will now respawn immediately after being harvested."

I wanted to add that if you right click spam the sapling with bonemeal(may take up to 40 or even 50 bonemeal on some occasions) finally a log base will be created, you can use this to force tree spawns in locations they would normally not be able to grow. Also, doing this seems to increase the chances of growing huge trees. This might be caused by multiple trees trying to grow on top of eachother because of bonemeal being added so rapidly.

This was tested on a SMP server by growing a huge forest using admin-created bonemeal and sapling stacks.

Redstone torches and repeaters in SMP

I noticed redstone toches often get stuck on the off state and every torch placed on that block (even after the block is replaced) will get stuck on the off state when turned off. Redstone repeaters also have a bug like this, but it happens less often. They get stuck on the on state and won't ever turn on when replaced. (I don't remember if I tried to replace the block) Cheeser 15:36, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

I've experienced that problem a lot of times as well Aneesh 18:44, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Can you confirm this happens without /time as cause ? I noticed the command /time breaks clock based circuits and have added this Lalophobia 13:52, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
I looked into it and it happened after I used the /time command. It breaks some torches and repeaters and some that are placed afterwards. A server restart causes torches to function normally again, but some repeaters stay stuck till they are updated by an active wire. Cheeser 15:43, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Teleporting while in bed

In multiple SMP servers, when I'm in a bed and somehow teleport (whether by tp or by warps), it causes the client to freeze, not showing any response at all. Has anybody else experienced this? Rallias 21:10, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Someone writing bugs onto the article in first person

Someone editing the article keeps using first-person terms like "I". For example, on the fourth image down the right side, it says "After a forest fire I lit at night". By the way, I can confirm the bug related to the image. Vincent2128 07:42, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

It's not of a huge concern. This article is hardly encyclopaedic, if we were going to go for that, it'd probably be easier to just delete this whole thing and start again. It's really just a list of bugs for Notch to look at whenever he's in a bug fixing mood.

But hey, if you feel look going through the article to make it look nicer, knock yourself out! –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:02, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Lightning and Paintings

In my SMP (CraftBukkit) server, I've twice had the server crash due to null reference errors when a painting is damaged by a lightning bolt. Can anyone find out if this also happens in vanilla SMP/SSP as well? --Sukasa 15:18, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

End of Stream

Over half of the servers on SMP are experiencing major End of Stream Errors.

Nether Portal in SMP

It's mentioned in the page on the portal page, but it isn't in the list of known bugs that the nether portal doesn't work at all in SMP. When you light the Obsidian it creates the purple portal texture, and it makes noise like a normal portal. When you walk through it you simply walk through it and come out the other side still in the normal world.

Wallmounted items fall off in outermost chunks

Related to http://getsatisfaction.com/mojang/topics/redstone_torches_disappear_in_smp Observed on MP, goes for anything mounted on walls (Torches, rstorches, signs) Theory: If the outermost loaded/active chunks have items mounted on a wall of a chunk even further out, the item will not have a wall to hang onto, thus fall to the ground. (Because the further out chunk is not loaded/active) This often results in players not noticing until the item has despawned, thus leading to the belief that this is a bug that makes "Torches disappear".

Double doors

Don't know if this is a known bug already, but when you are trying to make double doors by putting rightside door first, it won't "turn around", so when you put the door to leftside, there is two single doors instead of double doors.

I hope my text makes sense. --JurnthReinal 20:32, 27 April 2011 (UTC)--

'Biomes' subtopic

I removed this subtopic because it concerns bugs with worlds generated before the Boo update and are no longer relevant. If Notch is going to reference this list we should keep it up-to-date. I also moved the bug where snow and rain fall through water to the Water subtopic. LTK 70 23:07, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Fancy/Fast graphics and rain

I just went on Minecraft to play some SMP, and while it was raining outside it didn't give me the (very nice, by the way) sound effect of the rain. When I switched my graphics from Fast to Fancy, the sound started playing again. Fancy to Fast made the sound stop, as if the rain had stopped - even though the rain graphics were still there. I'm submitting this as a bug because the GRAPHICS are set to Fast, not the sound. --NearNihil 13:24, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, i've noticed that too. My computer can't handle fancy graphics in rain cause of all the particles, but i really like the sounds. I'll add that in a bit, along with a couple other weather-related bugs. --Zkyo 13:40, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

F3 toggled + shift (Crouch) + F2 (Screenshot) = Crash

This bug needs more confirmations, true or false. I personally just tested it in SSP multiple times and got no crash, just lag spikes. LTK 70 17:27, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Shift + F2 used to take huge screenshots, which would lag or crash Minecraft on some computers. Maybe with F3 toggled, these screenshots are one again taken. Sign your posts btw. --Zkyo 15:45, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Right, excuse me. I don't see any correlation between the size of my screenshot and whether F3 is toggled and/or Shift is held down. The sizes range from 500 KB to 2 MB. It might have something to do with whether or not chunks are being loaded at the time the screenshot is taken, but I'm not sure. LTK 70 17:27, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Did another check and the toggling of F3 and holding down Shift has nothing to do with the size of the screenshot. I think this can be removed if no one else reports it. LTK 70 19:13, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Tried multiple combinations of said keys, no "large" screenshots were taken. The feature appears to have been removed. -AlphapT~C 05:16, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Missing drops on pickaxe

"* The last use of any tool causes a block to not drop, unless you normally get a drop from using your hands."

I have tested this and can reproduce it only on a pickaxe. Can somebody confirm this? --Sworddragon 17:43, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

You get the material on last hit in singleplayer if i'm correct, but not in multiplayer. Calinou - talk × contribs » 19:05, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

You're right, this bug has been around for a while on SMP. It's not present on SSP as far as I know? I've experienced it only with pickaxes, and at its last use the block gives nothing. This includes ores. I haven't explicitly noticed it with other tools, but I have noticed that the bug is absent with shovels. I think this means that the blocks only fail to provide drops when you could normally not have mined it with your hands. In other words, as soon as your tool breaks the game thinks you've been mining the block with your hands, and in the case of stone and ore this means it doesn't drop anything. Because pickaxes are the only tools that mine blocks exclusively, it doesn't happen with shovels and axes. However, one person on GetSatisfaction reports that it does happen with swords. GetSatisfaction thread LTK 70 19:11, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Also, you won't get snowballs on last shovel hit too. You still get the block with axes/shovels in general. For swords, there's maybe a problem about 1 block broke with it counts as 2. Calinou - talk × contribs » 18:58, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Buckets and Carts with Chests. NOT FIXED

I assumed that it was fixed with that update stating that buckets will no longer release their contents when opening a chest with them. When I was gathering lava (entire inventory full of buckets of lava) and then went to several chestcarts on my rails, I opened one with a bucket of lava: The lava released on top (yes, on top of) the cart and destroyed all carts with all the hundreds of rails and iron pickaxes in them.

Basically this is the summary: When opening a normal chest with a bucket it won't release the contents. When opening a chestcart with a bucket it will release the contents.

It's extremely annoying since if you make the mistake it'll ruin EVERYTHING. My client is in 1.5_2 or what's it called... The date is 28-04-2011 (DD-MM-YYYY) and my client is fully updated.

Wrong. You opened it too far away, so it emptied the lava instead. Cool12309(T|C) 21:28, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Poster is right. Interacting with a Minecart+chest both opens the chest and empties a bucket. I've confirmed it in SSP and I'll add it to the list. LTK 70 21:49, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Crouching Falls off Edge

If you are crouching and walk to the edge of something, then stop crouching you will fall off even if you are not moving. Similarly, if you crouch to the edge of a block, then while still crouching but not moving, place a gravity-influenced block like sand or gravel right underneath you, then you will fall with the block even though you were technically supposed to be crouching on the previous block still.

Mellamokb 04:31, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

The most likely reason for this "bug" is that if you sneak to the edge of a block you aren't on the block anymore, as third-person mode and coordinates prove. However, this might be an intended feature and not a bug, to make it easier to achieve more precise landings on steep drops. -AlphapT~C 05:12, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
Sometimes when building (for lack of a word for it) "from beyond the edge" (try making a floating row of blocks , while standing on the last block facing to the start of the row - holding crouch; moving backwards while placing blocks) you occasionally still fall down without releasing crouch. (bit hard to explain, but it results in death often when it occurs, and is a bit annoying because otherwise its a really fast way to make a floating line of blocks) Lalophobia 09:30, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Mob spawns when trying to sleep?

Workbench duplication

I don't know if it works in Multiplayer, and I don't know if it is just in Windows XP. But if I place something on the workbench and then press F11 to close fullscreen, and then return to fullscreen (by again pressing F11) the workbench window closes, leaving the object duplicated on the ground. However, it is not possible to pick up stashable items without "converting" them first.

To do this you must aim at the edge of the workbench when opening it, this will make one of the duplicated items to fall down from the bench and the other one still placed on top of it. When you open the workbench and place, say a block of diamond inside, then pressing F11 to close fullscreen and then press again to get it in fullscreen mode again. Now use the sneak/crawl command to move close and only picking up one of the items. Place this block in the workbench and divide it to nine. Then you can do the same to the other block and you have two.

If you simply pick up to things they will get placed in the same square and therefore the duplication will be destroyed. Duplication of none stashable items such as food or buckets will not be destroyed. Aaah, this reminds me of the old days of Diablo 1.

I have been searching for other reports of this bug but haven't found any, if this is already reported, please remove this one. I hope someone fixes this bug because it realy is disturbing and I can't stop doing it.

If you jump the place where a door will open, and then open it, you are able to get on top of the door. This allows you to jump two blocks up instead of one. Aneesh 18:39, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

mobs spawning by your bed in well lit areas

if you use our bed in a well lit area mobs can spawn near your bed. this is a known bug. what i learned is what causes the bug. if you plant your door from outside you house so the door is closer to the outside of your house mobs can come in to your house and wake you up. if you do it the other way mobs dont attack you at night. this also depends on you door placement. one of my houses has a cactus farm an mobs cant get to the door so mobs can wake me up. so it seems that the close doors planted from outside your house basically just work like open doors for mobs. this bug i simple to come across an annoying as hell.

Maybe, but it's also known bug afaik.. I took a glance at the Bed list in the main page to see if it was there but that list is a mess in general - good example
If you try sleeping in a bed on SMP server while standing on it

This from the single player list, of course Lalophobia 11:48, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

SMP Snowballs

Thrown Snowballs hitting passive mobs (like pigs or sheeps) will knock them back without doing any damage. But if you throw them at other players, they will go straight through them without any effect. When Snowballs are fired from an dispenser, they'll have no effect on other players or yourself. They will go straight through you.

SMP Drowning

If you are drowning, your armor will get damage and loose duration, too.

Not a glitch, occurs in SSP as well. Armor acts as damage reduction (and takes duration damage) from all forms of injury. Somehow this includes drowning. Darkid 12:14, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Doesn't really make sense, does it? I think it still counts, so I'll list it as an omission. LTK 70 13:21, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

Possible SMP Mob Spawning Bug?

This is something I and a few friends have noticed on our server, but I wanted to check and make sure it wasn't a Bukkit-specific thing. It seems like certain mobs will never despawn like most, constantly building up until there are ridiculous numbers of them. We've so far noticed this with Ghasts, Squids, and Slimes. Doesn't seem to happen with anything else. The Ghasts were so bad we had to actually disable them as the Nether became one giant white cloud that rained fireballs on all who entered :)

Anyways, like I said, we run Bukkit so I didn't want to add this without confirming it was a universal thing. --Warlock 20:40, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

An easy way to check is to disable all mods, re-enable them individually and see if it has any effect. Of course, that means no more Nether, but you could still check on the numbers of other mobs. I personally haven't noticed a lack of despawning mobs, although slimes can often be problematic in large strip mines. LTK 70 13:12, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
It's not my server so not really an option :( --Warlock 16:00, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
This bug existed in Minecraft Beta 1.4. Slimes and squids wasn't despawning. Even after hundredthousand of mobs spawned I saw some squids with an ID of 50 and so and the same happened with slimes. After some time were wasn't even more monsters spawning in these chunks maybe because they were full. But I don't know if this happens in 1.5 too because I haven't found any old squids and there are a lot monsters spawning at any time. --Sworddragon 16:38, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

reformatting ?

Is it an idea to reformat this page (using I.E.: a template to get some additional attributes to each bug..Which hopefully will help Mojang solve it quicker in the long run.. and easier to read and digest the page for everyone) - SNIPPED CLICK FOR REST

This reply in proper context here

I'm just a little worried this is going to get absolutely huge. I mean, there are a LOT of bugs on the list. Also I wonder if priority/impact should be included - I'm just thinking of the crazy edit wars that might take place because different people have different perceptions of bug priority. Also not sure what the @Jeb box is for, considering I don't believe Jeb is even working on MineCraft right now. Notch is the one fixing these.
Otherwise I think this isn't a bad idea. It will probably be a lot of work to convert though.
P.S. - I absolutely agree with distinguishing if a bug is in both SSP and SMP - current layout doesn't really take this into account (you can kind of assume SSP bugs also occur in SMP, but that may not always be true)--Warlock 15:14, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
I think I made some edits while you were typing that -SNIPPED CLICK FOR REST- quite a wad of text
Diamond Pickaxe Lalophobia Cake | 15:52, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
OK I've gone ahead and 1. I cut this huuuge entry out this page ((~at least my part, I didn't feel like I should have moved someone else's reply as well)) ..anyway 2. Also I've made a small example using the SHORT_DESCRIPTION on to refer it to the bug inside a template -works out quite nicely IMHO. Please click to get to the subpage and the example
Bottom line if we use a short descriptive title for each bug.. And somehow split the description from a blob of text about the bug we end up with an actually readable page ;D
There are a few ways to do it, I was initially thinking about templates and I made 2 examples, however I can imagine a third I just don't know enough about wiki to make it work - Hopefully someone better with templates/tables/? as I am can hop on the bandwagon and pitch in some more examples on how to get the result where bugs are listed in a short description... For example a collapse able table, it starts "collapsed" so you can only see the short descriptions, when you click the description the full text (repro steps, workarounds, other info, etc.. are shown)
My two examples are basically splitting the blob into a description and an entry for each bug using a template. templates either in-page or as sub-pages.. But there are probably better solutions.. the templates are nice in a way that they aren't hard to use and don't have to make the page hard to edit (which it could become if everything gets clunked in one big table for each category. And I made my template so the first variable is the short description , the second variable is the description ..so its relatively easy to reformat all the existing entries to use it...
Can someone remind me how to make bits of table collapsed on load ?
Known_bugs/formattest#Achievements Diamond Pickaxe Lalophobia Cake | 00:17, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh It got lost in the snipping - The @jeb_ was to have a field to place links to the Reply in this page that was made by Jeb.. But it could of course be renamed and used to link responses from whatever place Mojang (not specifically jeb or notch. but any official reply about anything) used for a specific bug - whether it be this page or something on getsatisfaction or .. w/e
priority might not be awesome indeed, since its equally hard to know what mojang thinks are important bugs - It might be better to turn it into an "intended fix eta" field (so if we know they are working on some bug to fix before the next version we can add that bit of info .. But again, It was a "quick" mockup, I put some thought into the fields but it wasn't my goal to make it perfect all at once ;p Lalophobia 10:32, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
What we really need is a proper bug tracker; then we'd get bug indexes, a place to put full descriptions/discuss the bug/offer fixes, and ability to track the priority/severity/assignees/affected versions/whether it's been fixed or not, in an interface designed to do just that. Trying to implement a poor BTS on top of MediaWiki doesn't strike me as a particularly great plan. Dagger 12:02, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Well ..although I agree on that [An actual BTS is the best solution to manage bugs) , this list is recognized by Mojang as a good list (content wise) and it has their attention.. Currently it's even more clunky as getsatisfaction (Although getsatisfaction has a lot better layout its just overwhelmed with topics (247 PAGES in the Common problems sections index - so thats unusable as a tracker because of polution not to mention that there is very little to say for it in terms of anything you'd expect a generic BTS to be capable of (because its a feedback system NOT a bugtracker - period)) .. so until the switch is made to an actual bug tracker we're still stuck with whatever Mojang says they are looking at ;) ..
And this page does need work because it's rediculously hard to plow through just to read, and there is overlap in SSP/SMP etcetcetc , and it's not 'quick and easy' to look through all existing bugs to see if your bug is there before posting.
So we might as well discus the best intermediate solution ,imho Lalophobia 13:13, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
PS: Also , if we swap over to some random BTS, eventually someone would have to change this page a list of bugs that are active on the BST. And that's very likely going to happen based on a short description ;) ;) ;) (also then there is a disadvantage that we'd need to figure a way to sync the BST and a list on the wiki unless we totally abondon the list and just keep everything in the BST )
And it doesn't have to be a 'poor BTS' because the wiki has some powerful mechanics, my examples are REALLY basic.. because my wiki skill is equally basic; however I did design the template with a strong point in mind..

Notice this first example is just using variable 1 and 2 - short description and 'the original blob of text' So it's really easy to start using and work out the details of the bug in later on .. <start>

<end>

Let's carry on the talk please, I think I've supplied some adequate idea's and did too much typing about it ;) ..
.. So it needs more feedback Diamond Pickaxe Lalophobia Cake | 14:28, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
I've whipped up a version which fits together nicely. You can preview it over at my projects page. If we use your current version the page will be massive, so we need to keep each initial thing to one line.
I'm happy with the design at the moment, what I need now is some more fields to fill in that blank space. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 15:55, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
It would only be massive if we used Example2 not if we use [| Example 1]
But Cool, you used that collapsable thing that I couldn't figure out / wasn't working the way i wanted it ... Because you still gave me the code to borrow .. have some of these CookieCookieCookieCookieCookieCookie
UGH...found the collapsable table on the regular wiki and it's not working ... HELP ..
Best practice would be to have it nested, so its just the description, then if you click show it shows short description+ text + repro steps + notes ... with another 'show' button

and if that is clicked the other attributes are visible like priority and version .. Tell me how to make it work and you get a box of cookies :)

Diamond Pickaxe Lalophobia Cake | 15:57, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
I just gave myself half a box of cookies .. Ha ! but now the next bit is the nested collapsable table
This may be mean, but I think the thing I like best about the nested table design is that it's probably complicated enough to provide a small barrier-of-entry to prevent some of the garbage that gets added to the list on occassion :P Like, some random guy will have to do some small amount of thinking before adding "omg I totolly sawd this bad bug where creepers expoded on me!111" --Warlock 16:16, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
I think those folks are already mostly stopped by the registering process.. It's acceptable if there is a tiny amount of code people need to take into account, but It should be usable by anyone in the long run (since the more things that can go wrong will also mean the more time lost by admins restoring the pages after someone messes up..)
Dont forget the goal is to make the page better (readable), not more complicated because of an occasional moron edited in a bullcrap bug ;)
Now that I finally have at least one part of the collapsable tables working my template should suck a lot less .. I'm trying to refrain myself from comparing the template I did with the template from Ultradude25 because we its just another way of using the templates.. The way that its representated is of course important in the long run but right now i'm more concerned with the concept, the mechanics and impact , not the visual aspect of it - at all.. - however, there are a number of things i really like about his example.. because it's basically the inline table version that I was asking for .. and it seems to generate some of the markup (the colors of severity) based upon what is filled in .. So he's a lot better with the tables and templates but when its broken down into components its a more suffisticated version as my general examples.. - and i dont mind that at all , i'm not trying to win internetz here. I just figured the main page desperately needs an overhaul and we're talking about possibilities here ^^

I don't know, if it's intended behavior (which, due to limitations in the code, it sort of is), I don't really think it's a bug. It's not exactly "correct behavior" either though, so I'm not sure how you'd classify that.
Side note: IMO, "fixed bugs" absolutely do not belong on the list. If it's fixed, it's no longer a bug. These are sort of already tracked in Version History, though probably not well. --Warlock 18:46, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

I have been mining diagnally-upwards for a while now to try to get to the surface, but it occured to me that i could be digging up to a lava pool so i cautiously stopped and consulted Minecraft Wiki. I couldn't find anything that linked into another case of this happening to anyone else so I have decided to ask here.

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else and perhaps this is a bug; known or unkown, but like I said, I couldn't find anything.

Anyone know what's happened?

For more details:

- The cavern i was teleported to was reletively small, and took approximatley 15 seconds to walk from one end to another. - The cavern wasn't actually tall enough to hold the whole of the portal but instead buried the bottom row of obsidian blocks. - There is nothing in the cavern but Netherrack and, of course, the portal. - I have dug about 100 blocks by travelling diagnally upwards. <*Edit* Now i am just travveling horizontally and I have now been mining for about 10 mins straight with a stone pickaxe and still not getting anywhere - I am now pressing the 'F' key every now-and-then to see if there is any lava or anything around, nothing yet.>

p.s. I have only been playing for 3 days now so if this is supposed to happen the I am sorry, though it is strange

It's not uncommon. Portals spawn in the Nether relative to the height where you entered them in the overworld. If you built one at the top of the map, you'll probably get a portal in the top layers. Same goes for the bottom of the map. It's unlikely that you dig into the lava sea though, since there are hardly any caverns under them.

In the future, you might want to take questions like these to minecraftforum.net. Wiki talk pages don't usually concern individual problems. LTK 70 22:40, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Water sometimes fails to turn lava into obsidian

Sometimes water falling on lava does not turn it into obsidian. Reproduce:

  • Seed Dead Mau5, Location 1: x: -164 | y: 70 | z: -19
  • Seed hu, x: 15 | y: 12 | z: 273 (see my comment)

I suspect this happens every time the water is falling on the lava instead of flowing on it. --GALAKTOS 09:13, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Game limitations

I saw some bugs listed here that were removed after a while for example that water doesn't flow through open doors. These are no real bugs but the logic is wrong. In my opinion we should give them an own section at the page because there is a chance that they will be fixed in some time too. --Sworddragon 14:01, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

I agree that they should be kept listed. Just because the game doesn't currently support blocks being non-exclusive to water (for example) doesn't mean that we shouldn't report it. It's not how you would expect it to work, and it's definitely not intentionally so. LTK 70 21:51, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

What constitutes a bug, in my opinion, is when a feature that is in the game (or at least supposed to be in the game) is not functioning correctly, or is totally absent. For example, the Nether, in SMP, is bugged because it doesn't work at all, when it is supposed to. Another example would be items clipping through non-solid non-cuboid blocks such as glass or slabs. Items are supposed to sit on any surface the player can, but they don't, so this too would be a bug. Shukaro 20:13, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

See, I don't know that I consider SMP Nether to be a "bug." If it was actually supposed to be there, and it didn't work, then yes, it'd be a bug. But it's not supposed to be there - Notch didn't finish it (yet). It's an omission or unfinished feature maybe, but it's not really broken. And to be picky, the Nether works in SMP, just not Portals (you can setup your server to be a "Nether" server, and there are also plugins/mods to enable Nether/Portal functionality to varying degrees of accuracy as well).
I don't know though - all this is really just getting into symantics. --Warlock 21:04, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

By that definition I do think that the case of water flowing past or through blocks counts as a bug. Those are the ones I'd still like to see listed. If water is blocked by a ladder, then water is simply not functioning correctly. It's true that this is a limitation of block mechanics, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed. LTK 70 21:28, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

another fun example would be a single fence (as a pole) surrounded by water blocks.. Lalophobia 23:19, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Bugs are differences in the actual behavior of a program from it's intended behavior, or maybe has unforeseen complications. You may not like the fact that water cannot exist in the same block as ladders, doors, etc. but there is no way that Notch did't deliberately and knowingly design the game to work that way. It is not an "error" -- it was a decision. Complaints that you don't like a game's design decisions don't belong on a bug list-- they are feature requests--Eleazzaar 17:35, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Archiving the page as is

This page is now a stunning 98 KB, which is a bit more than 3 times the "safe limit" for some browsers to view. This page should be archived so as to cut down the size of this page. Cool12309(T|C) 22:03, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

We could merge SSP and SMP because many bugs are listed twice for each. We could also try to cut back on unnecessary pics or links taking up space. YoshiRider9000 22:43, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Oops, I didn't mean the main page, I meant this talk page. THIS needs to be archived (why would you archive a main page?) Cool12309(T|C) 01:36, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Color/colour; gray/grey; etc. needs a hard limit

We need to have a hard set for color/colour and etc. things all around the wiki. We should go by what Notch uses, but I'm not sure what he uses. Cool12309(T|C) 22:03, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

He uses "gray"(as per the item gray wool) and probably uses "colour", since "color" is primarily a U.S. spelling. -AlphapT~C 22:13, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
The game does indeed use "gray", so I'd go with that. "Colour" though, ick... I have never been a fan of that spelling. --Warlock 14:48, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

SSP + SMP Combined Section Added!

The long awaited SSP and SMP section is now added! Please move the bugs that are in both the SSP and SMP sections to the new section. Cool12309(T|C) 01:53, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

I moved a ton over that I was sure occurred in both (or that were otherwise listed as such in the bug description). I'm quite sure there are more that need to be moved, but I didn't want to start making assumptions.
As a note, I didn't look at the SMP section at all, so there may be some leftover duplicates there (for the bugs that got written up in both sections) that were already moved from SSP to the new section. --Warlock 14:45, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Wait, what? I thought the SSP and SMP sections were already mutually exclusive. Why does this page even need a 'combined' section? Single Player Minecraft is the exact same game as Multiplayer Minecraft, and the bugs are an extension. I'd be very, very surprised if you can show me a bug that exist in a SSP feature but not the equivalent SMP feature. Portals don't count. LTK 70 20:42, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

An example of an SSP only bug is opening your inventory, holding down left-mouse button, close inventory while holding and you can break blocks without hurting mobs. This doesn't work in SMP but i do think they should say SSP only bugs instead of just saying SSP bugs. YoshiRider9000 22:56, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Ah yes, although there are particle effects when attempting to replicate this in SMP, so apparently they're still related. Even so, SSP-only bugs are a rarity, and don't warrant splitting the page up in even more topics. It's already pretty hard to keep redundancies out of the bug list as it is, so I really think the old format is a better way to go. LTK 70 13:33, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
If we have a combined section, then in theory, it should reduce the page size, by having it said only once and not twice. This allows the page to be loaded faster. Cool12309(T|C) 00:32, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Er, no. Almost all of the bugs listed in SMP are exclusive to SMP. I've made an effort to keep duplicate bugs out of the SMP list, and I'm sure other people have as well. If anything, a three-way split will cause even more duplicate entries. LTK 70 12:26, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
I think the combined section should be moved to the top as well as SSP and SMP being changed to SSP-only and SMP-only so ppeople can notice it better and would akso make things more clear. YoshiRider9000 02:03, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
I do agree that the combined list should be on top, I don't want to keep hammering on that reformatting project.. but in the meanwhile; what do we do with solved bugs?? I've spotted at least one already while glancing over the page - I do not agree that solved bugs should just be removed. Making a solved bug entry to the page might be an option (also makes it easier for folks to edit), but the list isn't short right now so with that in mind it might not be great.. Ah sod it, we need to do some more talking about that formatting project and go forward with something so just a description is shown- and not a blob of text per entry Lalophobia 22:49, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Bug Page Cleanup - 5/13/11 - 5/15/11

I am planning on doing a cleanup on this page (not the talk page). I do not mean formatting (although I might do :P), but I mean going through and testing each bug. During the cleanup period (May 13th, 2011 (Friday) - May 15th, 2011 (Sunday)), no changes to the page can be made. The approximate times for the 3 days are listed below:
May 13th: 9 PM (21:00) GMT 0 - 4:30 AM (4:30) GMT 0
May 14th: 5 10 PM (17:00) GMT 0 - 4:30 AM (4:30) GMT 0
May 15th: 5 PM (17:00) GMT 0 - 4 AM (4:00) GMT 0

Please note: I can't test the Mac OS X bugs, as I don't have a Mac OS X; nor can I test the 'sometimes' bugs, because I don't have time to test a 'sometimes' bug that takes 2 hours each.

Thank you for doing this. It will reduce the amount of work Notch has to do to test these bugs. But why did you remove these two bugs:

  • Destroying a minecart while you are in makes half of your body sink into the ground. If the ground is only one block thick, you will fall through completely. If the minecart is on the bottom layer of bedrock, you will fall off the bottom of the world.
  • If you hold the left mouse button down while holding a item, then open your inventory, still holding the left mouse button, and then close your inventory, as long as you don't release the left mouse button, you are able to break blocks without the swinging item animation.

I can easily replicate both of these. Are they duplicates of other bugs? Functor 01:53, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Beds in SMP

I'm not sure if this works in SSP, but in SMP, if you try to sleep in a bed that is surrounded by half blocks then it says that the bed is occupied. Going further, if you sleep in another 'legal' bed then you are teleported to the 'illegal' bed, even if you don't sleep. Using this, a player could easily get out of a situation by placing a bed and teleporting back to safety; so maybe it's not all bad.

Invisible player in SMP

From the bugs list :

Occasionally players will become invisible to each other at random times for no particular reason and will subsequently reappear just as randomly. Players may still interact with each other (damaging each other, mining terrain, etc) but will be invisible.

This bugs is really a pain for PVP servers. It happens often and players must disconnect/reconnect to avoid it.

But in fact, it's not random. You can find an explanation, how to reproduce it, and a quick fix on the server side here : http://minecraft.galaxy-games.com/content/invisible-player-issue --Tikkub 12:12, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Powered Rail by Slab Dud

When a powered rail is placed next to a slab, the slab doesn't count as a blocked side, and so when activated, it will not trigger a resting cart to accelerate as it should. Chloë 03:32, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

on the bright side, the whole launcher might be an unintended feature to start with ;) .I've tried asking notch and jeb if it is a feature or bug but have not received confirmation of anything.
If you place a normal track next to a block and put a cart on it you may notice that the cart pokes a few pixels into the block. What i think might happen with the powered rail because the cart normally shouldn't travel into a block it tries to adjust itself but it can't due to the braking of the unpowered rail. when the power is turned on the cart can move that pixel trying to adjust itself and in the process has 'momentum enough' to trigger the boost from powered rail and we see a 'launch' occur. Lalophobia 10:02, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Repeater Power Displacement

When a repeater drives directly into the side of a block, not only is that block powered, but wires running on either side of the block erroneously get power as well, though blocks in the same positions will remain unpowered as expected. For an example, see [5] (Is it acceptable to link an external image so long as it's on a discussion page?) Chloë(T|C) 01:34, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Pre-Emptive Bug Removal

It might be a good ideal to color code the bugs that Notch has claimed to have fixed for 1.6 here. It would be informative more than anything else. Probably just blue highlighting bugs Notch listed as fixed and adding a note at the top of the article stating that bugs highlighted in blue are scheduled to be fixed in Minecraft 1.6 -- Techrocket9 00:03, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

It would be a nice and informative feature.

  • Sure, go ahead. Nice idea.--Coupon22 21:49, 23 May 2011 (UTC)

I agree with this idea.

Well, if not blue how about a different color. Grey (faded almost) perhaps? --Techrocket9 19:40, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Edit: Of course, all this will be moot in like a day or two anyways. --Warlock 19:43, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Changing text color to note something is generally a bad idea. If you want to see where the note is currently, do a full-page search (CTRL + F in most browsers) and search for the string "[fixed 1]" (sans quotes). Administrators wouldn't necessarily be able to do so any better than any normal editor. Regardless, though, archiving is generally pretty easy - just choose a cutoff age (e.g. no replies in 2+ months), and copy all threads older than that to a subpage of this page (e.g. Talk:Known bugs/Archive 1). Then place a link to the archive at the top of this page. It doesn't really have to be fancy or complicated. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:08, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
An alternative idea : archive the whole page&talk with 1.6 , retest bugs and those that are still in get replaced on the list.. since it's a whole lot of work to sort out everything based on date and it will still not be flawless if something relevant gets archived or not - and might not be really useful to use a arbitrary date like '2 months ago' -the patch 1.6 is a clear landmark. We could start with a clean slate and start with a blank page with just these headers on the article page
  • Bugs from both SMP & SSP
  • Bugs solely in SMP
  • Bugs solely in SSP
  • Related bugs ( UI, launcher, etc)
  • Unsolved pre-1.6 bugs

1.6.2 assorted bugs

I'm just gonna throw in bugs I find here...

  • Lighting doesn't update for removed blocks (the air where the block was has lighting 0 until a torch is placed to reset the lighting)
  • Abnormal CPU usage in server (one core goes to 100%; one thread stuck in infinite loop?). Only while a user is connected... (To check: Does it use one core at 100% per user, or just one core when any number of users are online?)
  • Compression of chunk data means more laggy subways (due to fast speed of minecarts)
  • Furnaces are behaving strangely
  • Standing still in a portal after being portaled shows the whirly animation (but it never portals you)... Being portaled through, the whirly animation shouldn't play until you step out of the portal and into it again.

Suggestion: Requested Features list

I was thinking, can't we, in lieu with this page, create a Requested Features page?

Notch said he'd look here for bugs, well, maybe such a page could re-order his priorities on new features.

The page should include some introductory text, stating that things like 'more achievements' shouldn't be on that page.

I myself have a few ideas for this page:

  • A Biome Reader, similar to the clock and compass, which has 2 dials, the one on the left shows the temperature, the one on the right shows the humidity. In case something grows only, for example, in a desert, this reader can help you find one.
  • A Mineral Reader, like the Geologists in Settlers 2 it should be possible to get some information on what's in the ground. Something similar to one of the devices sported in the IndustrialCraft mod.
  • Binoculars or Telescope, cause, well, if I'm king of my castle I want to see what's below me!

Furnace: Infinite fuel

The bug is present in 1.6.4 SSP. I have a piece of coal inside a furnace, and it does not get consumed when I smelt/cook something. I've actually smelt about 50 iron ingots, 20 golds and some porkchops with that single piece of coal (nice?). I built more furnaces just to check if it was the same with them, but they consume the fuel as supossed to. Is anyone else having this (nice) bug?

Just FYI, the piece of coal does not disappear with the furnace burning forever. Actually, the furnace reuses the same coal as needed, but the burning animation stops when the coal is "consumed", its just that its not really consumed.

Cleanup of all "Sometimes" or "Occasionally" Bugs

Due to the sheer number of bug fixes Notch put into 1.6, I think there should be a cleanup of all bugs that are hard to test. Specifically, the bugs that happen "sometimes" or "occasionally" should be removed. If someone runs into these bugs again on the most recent version, they should re-add those bugs WITH PROOF that the bug happens in the most recent version. "Bug: Gravel (SMP) * After placing gravel in lava and digging out, burning gravel will appear floating in mid-air." I did not confirm this happening on SSP, so I didn't add it to the both section.

Meh sometimes random stuff gets removed by mistake just add it again.
Well I figured maybe it was deleted because it was not easily reproducible and fell under the category of the "sometimes" and "occasionally" bugs topic. So, I spent the past 8hrs trying to reproduce it but couldn't. I did get a screen shot [6] of the original bug. Sorry I didn't have the debug screen up to confirm, but this did happen in 1.6.6. I suggest leave this issue on the talk page and see if anyone else has seen this same bug.

Re: Boats

"1. If you manage to stand on your boat while it is under water, the boat won't move to any direction. 2. If you go under a water stream your boat will accelerate and rise upwards."

1. You generate enough force to counteract the force of it pushing up, so you remain still. Not like it's impossible. 2. How is that a bug? Last I remember wood floats in real life :P

Sry for seeming like a smartass, but this is just basic physics Sparx 04:51, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Buggy clouds

(I can't see any system here, move this if it is misplaced)

Clouds can go through blocks. This sounds like a bug... Petterroea 22:22, 24 May 2011 (UTC) I Think

Black Arrows

when i was playing minecraft I shot a arrow at the bottom of a block and the arrow turnt black. --Taco1945 19:31, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, that has happened to me too, although I do not think that is a bug. I think that might actually be a glitch instead...if that is possible. I think it has to do with the arrow not supposed to be like that...If you right click a door with a boat in your hand, the boat turns black and on top of the door... Entities take on the lighting shade of the cube they're in. What's happening here is that the arrow is “in” a solid block instead of the air, which is always black. You can also see black entities when a minecart rolls into a solid block (due to curves/ramps), or in particularly glitchy multiplayer where mobs don't cleanly jump up edges. —KPReid 17:24, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

thanks for the awnser.--Taco1945 21:40, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

Trees Deleting Slabs

I've noticed in Single player that When a tree grows from a sapling, and grows near a slab, they can grow over and delete the slab. I've only seen this happen with Smoothstone Slabs, but I guess it could happen with other ones.

Has anyone else seen this occurrence, to the point where we should add it?

Terrain_Generation bug false?

i believe "Large sections of "floating blocks" have been generated on new worlds for some clients. Here is a screenshot from a world in 1.5_01. The error only seems to appear in coastal areas in a large scale, floating blocks include: dirt, leaves and logs so far with select ores. Snow blocks seem also to appear on water.(Modifications within the screenshot have not shown bugs before and therefore I did not believe that they contributed to this bug.)" to not be a real bug since Zans Minimap (as displayed in the screenshot) WILL corrupt the terrain generation when multithredding is turned on in SSP. --Yssaril 18:18, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Tall Grass

I had some tall grass on my roof and part of it was sticking in my house. Would this be a bug? YoshiRider9000 23:44, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
