Chainmail armor is a type of armor that was made by Notch as a test. Pieces of chainmail armor can be crafted like all other types of armor, but with Fire instead. Fire can only be obtained via hacking or use of the /give command in Multiplayer. Chainmail armor has the same durability as Gold armor.

Chainmail is unique in that it is the only default armor with large amounts of transparency within the armor. Every other pixel is transparent, except for the front of the head, which has a clear space for the face, and other areas which have no covering. Another unique thing about it is that it absorbs all damage. Not just part of it. This has been disproven by taking damage while wearing full chainmail.

As of the update to Beta, the game refers to it as Chain Armor.

Notch briefly mentioned that he will add legitimate chainmail armor, most likely in a future Seecret Friday update.
