Chainmail Armor (aka Chain armor) is a type of armor that was made by Notch as a test. Pieces of chainmail armor can be crafted like all other types of armor, but with Fire as the ingredient, which can only be obtained via hacking/modding or use of the /give command in Multiplayer; thus, it is not currently available in-game. Chainmail armor has the same durability as Gold armor.

There is a mod called TMI (Too Many Items) which will give you chainmail or fire, but if you are not a modder, you can use INVedit which is basically TMI except it is a program.

Chainmail armor is unique in that it is the only default armor with large amounts of transparency within the armor. Every other pixel is transparent, except for the front of the head, which has a clear space for the face, and other areas which have no covering.

Notch briefly mentioned that he will add legitimate chainmail armor, most likely in a future update.[citation needed]

Chainmail armor is not in some texture packs and is sometimes used in some adventure maps as an accessory.
