Cape

Capes (previously known as cloaks) are vanity items and are worn in addition to the player's skin. There is currently no way to obtain a cape on one's own, however there are various client mods that allow players to obtain one, only visible client-sided. On the Console Edition some skins from various skin packs have capes. Players on PC who legitimately have more than one cape can choose between which to wear by going to their profile on Minecraft.net.

One Million Cape	File:1000000.png	File:1MCape.png	This cape was made for akronman1, the lucky buyer of the 1,000,000th copy of Minecraft.^[4]^[5]^[6] The cape was made by @Kinten.^[7]

JulianClark's Cape	File:JulianClark cape.png	File:JulianClark.png	This cape was given to JulianClark in return for bringing Notch the TV presenter and actor Ray Cokes.^[9]
Crowdin Translator Cape		File:Capeeeee.png	This cape was given to 29 translators on the Minecraft translation project at Crowdin using a fair dice roll.^[10]^[11] There were plans to give more capes to translators from time to time,^[12] but jeb later said that he canceled those plans after seeing abusive behavior from some translators like using auto-translation and down-voting legitimate translations.^[13] Translators that received this cape include 26583571, 77pali, a_mason, ahmetrcagil, aritzh, bogeymanEST, Brownd, ctrl_z, devil188, Dragory, Dushmursts, FerdErik, Forfal, FumblerX, Gucci_Mane_Burrr, Jokubolakis, JonnnLeee, jvith, Milhooz, moomoohk, MPlaneswalker, rayball36, Remixz, Remora, sa3dany, Space__man and Svajoklis_.
MINECON 2011 Attendees Cape			This cape was automatically added to all MINECON 2011 attendees' registered username.^[14]
MINECON 2011 Xbox Cape			A card was given to all MINECON 2011 attendees and contained a redemption code for Xbox Live. It uses the same design as the in-game cape from the PC version of Minecraft. The cape was then put on Minecraft: XBOX360 Edition as avatar downloadable content.

MINECON 2012 Xbox Cape		File:Minecon Cape2012.png	A card was given to all MINECON 2012 attendees upon check-in that contained a redemption code for Xbox Live. It uses the same design as the in-game cape from the PC version of Minecraft.
1st Birthday Xbox Cape	File:1st Birthday Xbox Cape.png		From May 9 to May 13, 2013, all players of the Xbox 360 edition were shown with this birthday cake cape (except for players using skins that have their own capes) to celebrate the 1st birthday of the Xbox edition of Minecraft.^[15]^[16] A PC version of the cape currently does not exist.
cheapsh0t's Cape	File:Cheapsh0tcape.png	File:Cheapsh0t.png	In October 2013, the user cheapsh0t received this cape for helping jeb and the Mojang team in Tokyo. The cape is identical to the Crowdin cape except for the Japanese flag on the reverse side of the cape.^[17]^[18]
MINECON 2013 Attendees Cape	File:Wearing MC2013 Cape.png	File:Official MineCon 2013 Cape.png	On October 30, 2013 Tobias Mollstam of the Mojang Team tweeted out an image of the 2013 MINECON cape. The cape shows an extended piston on a green shaded background.^[19] A redemption link for this cape was emailed to all registered MINECON 2013 attendees, similar to MINECON 2012's method.^[14]
Scrolls Cape			On November 7, 2014 it was announced that there was a new Scrolls cape. Players who earned the Weekly First Place winner badge five times will be given access to the cape. As of November 7 2014, two players – _antirad_ and nickdean16 – have earned the cape.^[20] By the end of 2014, three users have now earned the cape.^[21] On December 11/12, 2014, all users were shown with this scrolls cape to celebrate the release of Scrolls.^[22] This cape was not added to user accounts.
Moderator Cape			This cape was given to the Bug Tracker Moderators on December 25th 2014.

Unused MineCon 2011 capes

These capes were featured in a poll where MineCon 2011 attendees could vote for their cape of choice. The red creeper cape won MineCon 2011, and the blue cape with the pickaxe was for MineCon 2012. These following capes are still unused though may appear in the future.^[23]

==Usage==

===Shearing===
Shears lose 1 [[durability]] when used to shear something.

Shears can be {{Control|use|text=used}} on a [[sheep]] to remove its coat and drop 1–3 [[wool]] of the corresponding color. The same sheep can be sheared again after it eats from a [[grass block]] to regenerate its coat.

Shearing a [[mooshroom]] drops 5 [[mushroom]]s of the corresponding color and irreversibly turns it into a normal [[cow]].

Shearing a [[snow golem]] irreversibly removes its pumpkin, dropping it and revealing its face.

Shearing either a [[beehive]] or [[bee nest]] that is full of honey makes it drop 3 [[honeycomb]]s and resets it to honey level 0. The same beehive or bee nest can be sheared again if it is able to reach full honey again. If sheared by hand without a [[campfire]] below the hive or nest all bees within will exit and all nearby bees will attack the offending player. 

[[Dispenser]]s can use shears in any of the above listed ways, interacting with any valid block or entity in front of the dispenser's face. This decreases the shears' [[durability]]. A dispenser shearing a beehive or bee nest will not anger bees or cause them to leave even if there is not a campfire below it.

Shearing a [[pumpkin]] turns it into a [[carved pumpkin]], dropping 4 [[pumpkin seeds]] {{in|java}} or 1-3 pumpkin seeds {{in|bedrock}}.

{{IN|java}}, shearing the tip of [[cave vines]], [[kelp]], [[weeping vines]], or [[twisting vines]] sets its age value to 25 and stops further growth.

===Breaking blocks===
Shears use 1 [[durability]] when is used to break any block, even if it [[instant mining|breaks instantly]] by hand.

Shears can be used to harvest [[cobweb|cobwebs]], [[leaves]], [[grass|grass, tall grass]], [[seagrass|seagrass, tall seagrass]], [[fern|ferns, large fern]]s, [[dead bush]]es, [[nether sprouts]], [[vines]], [[glow lichen]] or [[hanging roots]] and obtain them in item form. They can also be used to break [[tripwire]] connected to a [[tripwire hook]] without activating it.

When shears are used to break [[Weeping Vines|weeping vines]] or [[Twisting Vines|twisting vines]] they are guaranteed to drop in item form instead of the usual 33% chance. This only applies to vines directly broken by shears and not vines that are broken due to the destruction of their supporting vines.

The following table shows information about blocks that can be broken with shears. Colors indicate what gets dropped when the block is broken:

*White: The original block.
*Blue: The block's normal drop (i.e. string, sticks, seeds, saplings, apples).
*Red: Nothing.
