The Brewing Stand is a block used for Brewing potions, replacing the cauldron after the Beta 1.9 pre-release. It was revealed on September 30th, 2011, when Jeb posted these 2 tweets:

Look back at me! Your Cauldron is now a Brewing Stand. Anything's possible when working with interaction design.[1]

I'm fully aware the potions are very thin (diet?), but it looks cute: http://i.imgur.com/cNX6J.png (Always work in progress, of course)[2]

Use

To use the brewing stand, you must have at least one Water Bottle, and either Redstone, Ghast Tear, Nether Wart, Spider Eye, Fermented Spider Eye, or Magma Cream. First, you must place the brewing stand (any location you want it to be at), then, right click it. Place the amount of bottles you want to use onto the square with a greyed-out bottle (up to three, one at each spot). Next, put your ingredient in the space above the middle bottle. The bubble on the left should start moving rapidly, and the arrow on the right should slowly start to fill up. Shortly after, the bottle will have changed into a potion.
