The Bottle o' Enchanting is a throwable item introduced in weekly snapshot 12w04a, which drops 3 to 11 experience points on impact. It can only be obtained in Creative mode, or via inventory hacking. But as of Snapshot 12w21a it can be obtained in Survival by trading with a Villager.
It is visually similar to a Potion and works like a Splash Potion, but cannot be brewed, and has no effect on mobs.
The item itself gives off a glowing animation, again much like normal Potions.
The Bottle o' Enchanting's main use is to give experience without requiring usage of server commands or mods. For example, they can be used in player-made dungeons as a dispensable reward for players.
Trivia
- Because experience is no longer needed for enchanting in creative mode, the only use for the Bottle o' Enchanting is for custom maps or as a reward in multiplayer.
- The Bottle o' Enchanting breaks on a variety of different surfaces and objects that may not be expected.
- The Bottle o' Enchanting breaks if it hits a mob directly.
- It will also break on blocks that players can pass through, such as active portals.
- Even though the Bottle o' Enchanting is green, the Bottle o' Enchanting gives off blue sparks, and glows purple (as an enchanted item does).
- The Bottle o' Enchanting can be used to show the player's limited capacity to absorb experience orbs at any given moment.
