Blast Protection is an armor enchantment that reduces explosion and firework damage.

The formula for damage reduction by explosions is (8 × level)%, meaning that for every additional level another 8% of the damage is absorbed. The highest level (Blast Protection IV) absorbs 32% (4 x 8%) of the damage inflicted by any explosion. Theoretically at level 13 no damage from explosions is possible (because it should absorb 100%), but the damage reduction is capped at 80%.

In Java Edition, Blast Protection also reduces explosion knockback by (15 × level)%. However, the amount of reduction is rounded down to the nearest integer (100%), so the knockback reduction is only noticeable if the player has Blast Protection VII or higher and is close to the explosion.[1] If multiple pieces have the enchantment, only the highest level's knockback reduction is used.

Damage reduction from Protection, Fire Protection, Feather Falling, Blast Protection, and Projectile Protection stacks up to an upper limit cap (see armor enchantments).

Protection, Blast Protection, Fire Protection, and Projectile Protection are mutually exclusive. However, if commands or mob drops are used to have something with two or more of these enchantments on the same item, the effects stack.
