Amplified Biome

An amplified world

Information icon
This feature is exclusive to Java Edition and Legacy Console Edition.

Amplified, stylized in-game in the Java Edition as AMPLIFIED, and in Legacy Console Edition as Amplified Worlds, is a world type.

Generation

Amplified worlds generate as many large hills and mountains, which dwarf even the mountains biome seen in default world types, and will more often than not reach the world height limit. Deep caverns will often reach down to the bedrock layer. Due to extremely steep cliffs and unforgiving terrain, careless players will find it quite difficult to survive in this world type. Certain biomes (i.e. swamps , oceans and rivers) may see no obvious change in height. Villages will still generate in this world type regardless of how flat the ground is, causing the buildings to generate in bizarre ways.

This world type affects only the Overworld. The Nether and the End generate normally.

AmplifiedNotice

It is recommended that you have a relatively powerful (or "beefy", as it is said in the world type’s description) computer to play on Amplified, since world generation uses a large amount of RAM, CPU power, and other resources. Otherwise, intense lagging and long loading times can be a problem. In the Legacy Console Edition, Amplified Worlds can only be created on current-generation consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One).

Chest loot
On the base of <code>ancient_city/city_center/city_center_2</code>, a single golden apple is contained in the chest. Eating it at that location unlocks the piston doors to the redstone labs beneath.
golden-apple

Usage
To eat a golden apple, press and hold use while it is selected in the hotbar. It restores 4 points of hunger and 9.6 hunger saturation.

Unlike most foods, golden apples can be eaten when the hunger bar is full.

The golden apple provides:
*Absorption I for 2 minutes (providing points of absorption health)
*Regeneration II (1 every 25 ticks, × 0.4 per second) for 5 seconds (long enough to heal 4 points of damage)

Curing zombie villagers
Zombie Villager#Curing

A golden apple and a potion of weakness can be used to convert a zombie villager into a regular villager.

Horses
Golden apples can be used for improving the chances of taming a horse by 10%, for breeding and leading horses, and for speeding up the growth of baby horses by 4 minutes.

Piglins
Piglin are attracted to golden apples. They run toward any golden apples on the ground, and inspect it for 6 to 8 seconds before putting it in their inventory. However, piglins do not eat golden apples (or any food).

Trivia
Prior to Java Edition Beta 1.8, the golden apple outwardly restored the player's full 20 health points; Internally however, it is set to restore over double that, at 42 health points. This is most likely a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, making it restore (the meaning of) life, 42 (health points). This is far before either the Absorption or Health Boost effects, causing this reference go unnoticed.

Trivia

 • This world generation can generate several floating islands, similar to the removed Skylands dimension.
 • The shattered savanna biome, even in the default world type, has an extreme landscape similar to Amplified.
 • This world type was made by complete accident, when Jeb messed up some coordinates.[1]
