The Minecraft "Adventure Update" was a huge update to Minecraft, similar to the Halloween Update. The Adventure Update was originally designated as Beta 1.7, but was later postponed to 1.8. It will be split into two updates, the second being Beta 1.9, due to its size and its still unfinished status.

The release date (according to Jeb) for the first half of the update was originally 8 September 2011, but was later delayed to September the 12th (As of 4:00 am mountain time 9/14/2011 the update has been released).

Notch replied on a tweet that he is nervous about this update.[1]

An early version of the Adventure Update was playable by fans[2] at Mojang's booth at PAX Prime, which was held between August 26th and 28th. A user from the Minecraft forums who was picked as a volunteer at their booth provided inside information on some of the new features. More on this can be found in this thread. For a list of features in the Adventure Update, consult the Upcoming Features page.

The Pre-Release of Minecraft Beta 1.8 was leaked and Notch has since approved this leak on his twitter[3] and people have been "testing" the pre-release which was originally meant for trusted Minecraft play-testers.

Release

1.8 was released on September 14th, 2011.
