The Minecraft "Adventure Update" will be a huge update to Minecraft, similar to the Halloween Update. The Adventure Update was originally going to be Beta 1.7, but was later postponed to 1.8.
New Features
Brightness
There will be a brightness slider, so the player can alter the brightness level of the game. It is unknown if this will be a server-only control for SMP[1]
Creative Mode
A fully functioning Creative Mode will feature in the update.[2][3]
Combat
Improved/revamped combat system, including critical hits.[4]
Bows
The player will be able to pull back the bow and charge it.[5]
Farming
There will be more farming options.[6] Pumpkins and Melons will be growable.[7]
NPC Villages
NPC Villages will be added.[8]
Mobs
Pigman
The Pigman may appear as a mob in the new NPC villages.[9]
"Scary Mob"
A scary mob has been confirmed to appear in the Adventure Update.[10]
Silverfish
It is possible that the Silverfish, whose texture can be found in the Minecraft folder as of 1.7, but is not used, will be included.[citation needed]
Mushroom Biome
Mushroom Biome will be a new biome. It will include a totally new biome code and will generate Huge mushrooms.[8]
Strongholds
Ruins are a possible addition. They are a new type of structure that seems to occur naturally.[11]
Sounds
There will be many updated sounds, provided by C418.[12]
Spikes
Spikes are a block that is able to be pushed by pistons.[citation needed]
Sprinting
The player will be able to sprint. It is unknown what form this will take.[13]
Underground Ravines
Underground Ravines are a new natural structure, announced by Notch on June 22, 2011.[citation needed]
Food
There will be at least five types of new food items.[14]
