This article describes content that may be included in a future update.
This content has appeared in development versions, but the full update containing it has not been released yet.
This article is about the upcoming game mode. For the update, see Adventure Update.

Adventure mode is an upcoming game mode intended for adventuring in which the player cannot place or destroy blocks, so as to avoid spoiling adventure maps by changing the map. The player can still interact with blocks that can be toggled, such as doors, levers, and buttons. The player can also still deal damage to mobs and trade with villagers.

It is likely that one would import and use custom adventure maps to be played, as a new map would not have much purpose or controllability, and a custom map would control certain aspects of the gameplay as well.

In Adventure mode, the player cannot simply get resources by breaking items or by destroying or building blocks. The only way the player can get certain resources is by killing mobs or trading with villagers. However, depending on what type of an adventure it may be, many of these features are unnecessary, or often unavailable by conventional means. It may also be a way to cheat on a map that restricts the acquisition of specific objects.

Although it is impossible to destroy blocks manually, it remains possible to use an explosion to get some resources. However, this may ruin the aspect of gameplay by acting as a way to cheat a map, as well as an annoyance from Creepers, and is likely to be controllable in the future. Explosions also can damage a map, rendering it unplayable or ruined.

While it is possible to play a normal Minecraft game in Adventure mode, it is quite difficult to do so. Most time is spent collecting food to replenish the ever-dwindling food bar. It is possible to collect some trade goods such as wool, raw porkchops, and wheat (by jumping on the wheat found in villages), as well as finding chests in blacksmiths, dungeons, abandoned mineshafts, and strongholds. Wood can only be obtained by using a Creeper near log structures and trees.

Features

 • Blocks cannot be placed or destroyed.
 • Interaction with mechanisms as well as trading is allowed.
 • Compatible in multiplayer.
 • This game mode is accessible in cheats, by typing /gamemode 2 <playername> or /gamemode adventure <playername> as of 12w22a.
 • Currently does not include permadeath.
 • Use of Modding API.[1]

History

Adventure mode, formerly Dungeons and Levers, was announced by Notch on July 7, 2010.[2] Notch hinted at for players to compete in Adventure mode. Adventure mode may include permadeath like in Hardcore mode, making it rogue-like in nature,[3] and may have a quest system with randomly generated maps/quests.[4]

A saddle is an item required to ride pigs and striders or control ridden camels, horses, donkeys and mules.

Obtaining
Chest loot
saddle

Fishing
Saddles can be obtained as a "treasure" item from fishing with a base chance (without fishing rod enchantments) of 0.8%.

Trading
Master-level leatherworker villagers have a 50% chance to sell a saddle for 6 emeralds as their trade.bedrock This trade is always offered in Java Edition.

Mob loot
Any mob that the player equips with a saddle drops the saddle upon death.

A strider may spawn being ridden by a zombified piglin, which causes it to spawn wearing a saddle. This saddle always drops when the strider is killed.

A ravager always spawns with a saddle and always drops the saddle upon death. Looting does not affect the drop.

Usage
While camels, horses, donkeys, mules and skeleton horsesJava can always be ridden, a saddle is required to control them. These mobs (only after being tamed, in the case of equine mobs) can be equipped with a saddle by placing it in their inventory, which can be opened by pressing use while holding a saddle or sneaking. The saddle can be unequipped by removing it from Saddle the specific inventory slot.

Saddles are required to ride pigs and striders, but even with a saddle their movement cannot be controlled like other mobs. A carrot on a stick (for pigs) or a warped fungus on a stick (for striders) is required to direct these mobs. Using a saddle on one of these mobs equips them with the saddle, and, since they have no inventory, there is no way to retrieve the saddle without killing the mob.

Animals can also be equipped with saddles by a dispenser.

Although ravagers are equipped with saddles and sometimes ridden by other mobs, the player is unable to ride ravagers.

Trivia
* A saddle is considered "armor" by the game, but the value of protection to the animal is zero.
* A saddle on a pig can still be seen if the pig is afflicted with Invisibility.
* When riding a saddled mob, the hunger bar is replaced by hearts (representing the mounted mob's health) resembling the look of the saddle.

A very fine item was a joke item from Java Edition 20w14∞, found only in the isolation dimension.

Appearance
The texture of a very fine item resembles the side face of a grass block with the words "Home Sweet Home" written on it. Unlike most items, its texture is 64x64 pixels, rather than the usual 16x16.

Obtaining
Dimension
A very fine item can only be obtained from an item frame in the isolation dimension. There is a maximum of 1 fine item that can be found legitimately in any world.

Cheats/Creative mode
This item can't be found in the creative inventory, but it can be middle-click duplicated in creative mode or given with the command.

Usage
This item cannot be placed or used in any way other than a trophy. It can still be inserted and/or rotated inside of an item frame.

Added Adventure mode. Accessible through the cheats command, /gamemode <playername> 2 or /gamemode <playername> adventure. In snapshot 12w22a it is still possible to craft in Adventure mode both with the 2x2 crafting grid in the player's inventory and with the full sized 3x3 crafting table. The player can still interact with blocks with an interface, such as chests, dispensers, crafting tables, furnaces and brewing stands. The player can also go through portals, but cannot activate one by using flint & steel; flint & steel can be used to activate TNT.

Bugs

 • There is a bug where paintings can be broken (but not placed). This is because paintings are considered entities.
