물고기가 미끼를 무는 걸 기다리는 과정은 인내와 주의가 필요하다.
낚시는 낚시대를 사용하여 물고기 및 여러가지 아이템을 획등하는 과정이다.
물고기 잡기
낚시대 찌 (베드락 에디션).
낚시대를 물 소스를 향하여 우클릭하면 낚시가 시작된다. 플레이어의 위치는 아무런 관계가 없다. 물에 들어가 있어도 되고, 보트에 타고 있어도 되고, 육지에 서 있을 수도 있다. 매우 작고, 앝은 물이나, 플레이어가 만든 풀에서도 낚시를 할 수 있다.
찌를 잘 관찰해야 한다. 찌 근처에 작은 물결이 생길 때 우클릭을 하면 물고기 등의 아이템을 잡을 수 있다.
아이템을 낚은 후에는 반드시 기다려야 한다. 기다리는 시간은 5초에서 45초까지 무작위이다.
- 미끼 마법이 부여될 때마다 기다리는 시간이 5초씩 줄어든다.
- 찌가 햇빛 또는 달빛에 직접 노출되지 않으면, 대기 시간이 대략 2배로 늘어단다. 찌의 바로 위에 있는 모든 블록은 햇빛에 완전히 투명해야 한다. 풀, 인계철선 등이 해당되며, 잎은 안된다. 참고로, 50%의 확률로 각각의 틱에서 카운트가 줄어들지 않는다.
- 찌가 위치한 블록에 비가 내리면, 기다리는 시간이 약 20% 줄어든다. 25%의 확률로 틱당 카운트가 1이 아닌 2가 내려간다. 참고로 현재 비가 내리는 바이옴에 위치해야 하며, 그 위의 모든 블록이 움직임이 없어야 한다. (횃불, 인계철선 등은 안됨)
대기 시간이 지나간 후, 물고기가 접근하고 미끼를 문다. 작은 물 입자 흐름이 찌를 향한다. 찌가 물속으로 들어갔을 때 즉시 우클릭을 하면, 줄을 감게 된다. 물고기가 물지 않았을 경우에는 낚시 줄이 그대로 물속에 남아 있게 된다.
- 성공적으로 줄을 감으면 생대구, 생연어, 복어, 열대어, 쓰레기 또는 보물(아래 참조)이 공중을 통해 플레이어에게 날아온다. 일반적으로 플레이어의 위치로 직접 날라오지만, 중간에 블록을 만나면 튕겨나간다.
- 또한 낚시가 성공하면 낚시를 하고 있는 플레이어의 위치에 1-6 만큼의 경험치 구슬이 스폰된다.
플레이어가 찌로부터 32블록 이상 멀어지거나, 낚시대가 아닌 다른 아이템을 손에 들면 줄이 사라진다. 이로 인해 낚시대가 망가지지는 않는다.
If a fishing rod is used while underwater, the bobber will float up to the water's surface, unless a block is in the way or unless it hooks a mob such as squid.
Reeling in the fishing rod costs durability; see below.
Junk and treasures
The player can occasionally catch treasure or junk instead of fish. An unenchanted fishing rod has an 85% chance of catching fish, a 10% chance of catching junk, and a 5% chance of catching treasure. Each level of the Luck of the Sea enchantment decreases the chance of junk and fish, and increases the chance of treasure.

Fishing rod durability
The fishing rod can be used 65 times before breaking, or more if the Unbreaking or Mending enchantments are applied.
- Reeling in while the bobber is in the air, or in the water, does not reduce durability.
- Reeling in successfully catching a fish, junk or treasure costs 1 durability.
- Reeling in while the bobber is stuck in a solid block costs 2 durability.
- Reeling in a dropped item costs 3 durability.
- Reeling in an entity that's not a dropped item costs 5 durability.
Durability cost occurs on reel-in, rather than on impact, so penalties can be avoided by switching to another item or dropping the rod instead of reeling in.

Issues

Trivia
- The maximum distance the player can get between the bobber and themselves is 33 blocks.
- If the players cast the bobber into a waterfall, the bobber will float up the waterfall until it reaches the top where it will stay until the player pulls it back in or until a fish is caught on the line. If a fish is caught on the line, the bobber will then fall off from the waterfall making it much easier to visualize when to reel in.
- If the player is underwater, or if they stand right next to the bobber, they can still catch fish.
- If the player casts the line into an End Portal, the line and bobber will disappear, although it doesn't teleport back to the Overworld.
- The player can switch from one fishing rod to another, at any time, even after hooking a fish or snagging something. This means that they can hook a fish with one rod, and reel it in with another. When they reel it in the new rod will take the durability cost.
- The player can obtain the Cow Tipper achievement from reeling in leather, if they have not yet received the achievement.
- If the player casts the line into the corner of a block it will "skip" the process of rising out of the water. This can be used for faster fishing. This is known as skishing.
- The player is still able to fish while using the fishing rod in their off-hand slot.
- The fish or other caught item behaves like a drop and can be stopped by solid blocks.
- When in F1 Mode, the fishing rod will be hidden, but the line and bobber will still be shown.
- On average, to use up an unenchanted fishing rod, it would take about 1625 seconds (≈ 27 minutes), if it is not raining and the bobber is directly exposed to the sunlight/moonlight.
