The Alpha development phase started on June 29th, 2010 and ended on December 20th, 2010. It was preceded by Infdev and followed by Beta.

New Bugs:

  • Single player mode is completely broken
  • Leaf decay causes infinite looping, causing the game to freeze.
  • Mobs in multiplayer are much harder to kill than in single player mode.
  • Mobs are sometimes invisible and thus invincible, and can still attack players.
  • When a player dies, their newly-respawned body does not appear to other players. These "ghost" players were unable to pick up items, though otherwise able to interact with the world normally from their perspective. This was fixed with the ghosting player log back onto the server or by editing the player's .dat file.

  • Riding a Minecart in the Nether will cause a Graphical bug and you cant exit. However reloading the world will cause you to fall in lava.
  • In SMP, Boats and Minecarts are indestructible without the use of TNT.
  • In SMP, hitting sheep will drop cloth, but it can't be picked up. However, casting with a fishing rod will knock obtainable cloth, but the sheep will still appear woolen.
  • Getting out of a boat in SMP is difficult and buggy
  • Pressing F4 will spawn Nether Portals (later fixed)

  • On rare occasions, an item will not appear in the inventory when picked up and no more of this item will show up in the inventory. This can be fixed by closing the client.
