1.8.8[2] je aktualizace Java Edice, která byla vydána 28. července 2015 hlavně za účelem opravy bezpečnostních chyb. 1.8.8 je kompatibilní se servery běžícími na 1.8–1.8.7.[2] I když to nebyla poslední aktualizace na 1.8, byla to poslední před spuštěním snapshotů 1.9.
Předběžná verze pro 1.8.8 byla vydána 27. července, aby ji hráči mohli otestovat,[3] ačkoli plné vydání 1.8.8 je totožné s tímto předběžným vydáním.
